The first show in YEARS that sounded
quite as good as the 1999 show. TSUFL was amazing. Running to Stand Still was the
BEST. U2 rules, always. It's funny how this show was at walking distance from my
apartment.
I say full circle because somehow it felt like the same time as in 1999 and it felt
like an ending (for me not for them) - in beauty and not in the shit that was the
Vorst National show. It's a strange feeling but 1999 was a cross road for me and
december 2004 definitively is one too.
I couldn't help dreaming away about my skiing trip next week though ALL THE TIME.
And the skiing trip in january... and the other skiing trip in january... and the
skiing trip in february... and the skiing trips in march and april..... mmmmmmm.....
I'm glad I went, it was a good show. |

This concert was the best one I have
seen in years, it's amazing to how they can move a crowd. I got there pretty early
around 12, it was so cold and there wasn't anyone out there so I waited in the car.
Around 3 I decided to wait before the doors, amen, so cold I could barely move my
toes. So anyways, the doors opened up at 6:30. I was like omg all these people are
going to run for the first row, and they did, but I was on a crutch with my foot
and all, but thanks to Veerle (justagirl) I got the best place I ever could imagine,
first row right before Chad Taylor.
Around 8:15 Jasper Steverlinck opened up, he played a short set, basicly all covers
from other groups. The crowed seemed to enjoy it, or was it because of the guitarist
that was making faces while playing solo's (you have to see that, too funny).
Around 9:30 Live entered the stage, first their video intro, very nice made, all
ready getting goosebumps. Then they kicked in started with All over you, always a
great song, Ed's voice sounded a little bit off (what do you want after 3 concerts
at a row), but that didn't stop him to move the crowd along. Next they played They
stood up for love, I just love the way Adam and Taylor playing the intro together.
Selling Tthe Drama, as always, has a place in my heart, great song. Next was Run
Away, I'm not a fan of it but it was very pleased to hear it. Great version, too
bad it was without the solo. Next was Shit Towne, Ed played electric, he should play
that more often, sounded great. I love Ed's little solo in that song. Next, Ed spoke
to the crowd about Awake, and the new single, and they played it (We Deal In Dreams).
Great concert song, it rocks. Next was The Distance, probably the most funny song.
Ed said: "We're going to do an acoustic version with Gracey and his firery drums.
Something had died to make it a good one, at least we hoped so. The Distance sounded
great, nice sing-along. Next they played Running To Stand Still, one of my favorites
of the night, started acoustically and ended very hard, it was amazing, Taylor was
dreaming away I think, he was singing along with Ed of course (without the microphone).
Like I Do, with the soundboard intro, great song, Taylor was going nuts with this
one. Operation Spirit also one of my favorites of the night, wow nice, the crowd
really was into it, and the guys were great preformers. Lakini's Juice, what can
I say, Taylor with his Ruby Lou was going beserke. Ed jumped around the stage, Patrick
his usual self (cool and laid back), Gracey doing what he does best, Taylor, his
stomp, omg, it was so powerful that I actually felt the vibration. The Dolphin's
Cry, yeah great, as usual. Lightning Crashes, it does this thing every time. I Alone
was great, wow, the crowed sang to that, no samples of other songs, very good.
The guys went off, and Ed came back, and the soundboard was playing Overcome (the
piano version) and Ed sang to it, great. I Walk The Line, also one of my favorites
of the night. Ed started it with as he always does with his Bee-Gees voice, but the
second line he did it low, great version, I love that one. Heaven, I'm not a fan
of Heaven, but it was good with the "I look at my daughterS and I believe".
Run To The Water, sounded great, very pleased to here that one again. Ed took back
his electric guitar, and played Waitress, wow, that was one of the best versions
I heard from them. Ed forgot the words, but who cares. Wow, nice sing a long too.
No whistle, but we got "lalala la". Wow, that was so cool and Taylor going
wild with the outro solo, great. White, Discussion very funny, Taylor refused to
give his guitar back. Normally he plays White, Discussion with his fender, but he
ended up not using it, anyways, great version. Taylor went agressive at the end,
he threw his equipment over. Ed also was very into it, ran around like a nut. I really
like the extended version, very powerful version. And then they played one more,
Dance With You, beautiful version. Ed then gave credit to the guys (Taylor came up
to the microphone and gave Ed credit as well). Great closer for a wonderful concert.
Aftershow: So, I was talking to Veerle, she was on the guest list but she wasn't
sure, so she went asking Jimmy, as I walked along hoping that he would say that I
could come too. He suddenly asked the 4 best words I ever heard, "Will you come
to?" The after show was short but good, I was totally nervous and shy. The first
member I came up to was Patrick. Patrick: "Hey man, how you doing? Don't I know
you from somewhere?" Me: "Maybe". I then gave him something to sign.
Next was Gracey, "Hey I'm Chad, how you doing?" Ed skipped me, he had already
been gone for like 5 minutes. I then went to Adam, gave him my paper, and he signed
it. I thought panic Taylor was gone too, but then he came out (he was just getting
himself a drink). I was really nervous to speak to Taylor, but after a while, I did
so. Veerle took a picture of me and him, and he signed as well. Taylor: "Hey
man, how your doing?" Me: "Good, great show!" Taylor: "Yeah,
I know. Cool."
So that was it. Thanks to Veerle and Jimmy for the wonderful night. And I hope Live
comes back soon! |
