Not that much to say really, was a
great show again, all the guys were really into it which was cool. It sucked having
to sit, but my dad didn't really wanna go in the mosh pit. The seated crowd were
pretty lame, people didn't really start standing until RTTW. Was great to see that
the mosh crowd were into it from the start though.
Was the same set as last night except they played BOG instead of PLOTR and Overcome
instead of TMH. Was really sweet to hear Overcome acoustic, so beautiful...... Ed
said that they'd keep coming back for 50 years, the crowd loved that one!!
Anyway, another year of Live downunder, great shows once again, and last night's
was certainly the best I've been to!! |

The crowd was a little disappointing.
Not as into it as early as Saturday night. I actully had a couple sitting next to
me leave just after Shit Towne! No idea why........the hubby was getting into it!
Unlike Saturday, the turning point of the night was The Dolphin's Cry. Most of the
stadium was on their feet for that one, and many that followed.
The guys were in fine form once again. Ed was as animated as ever and keeps amazing
me how he can put so much into the night, and still have a voice at the end! Mine
is usually giving up 15 minutes into the first set! Taylor was trying his best to
stomp holes all over the stage. Adam really looked at home up there in front (where
I think he should stay!). Pat's cool layed back rocking on my side of the stage along
with an awesome solo at the start of I Alone was a definate highlight, and finally
Gracey. Well what can I say, I had sore arms just watching!
At one stage, a note was left for Ed on the stage which I think informed him of the
arrest of Saddam. He made comment during White, Discussion (I think) about it, but
must confess, I didnt catch it.
Overall..........I had a ball and I hope the guys did too!! They always do themselves
proud in Melbourne, and the fans give them so much in return. The worst bit about
the night, it was the beginning of the countdown to the next tour! But Ed said they
would be back, and back and back, even in 50 years time when they all have pacemakers! |

Ok firstly it was great to see Live,
one of the worlds best bands getting down and dirty with some old school rock in
this show. Train received a great response to their closing song Drops of Jupiter
with the entire Rod Laver Lit up and on their feet, you could tell Pat was genuine
when he said ì Thank you for being so kind to us ì. Having seen the Live show on
the previous night, I had huge expectations as I settled into a position on the floor
about 5 metres from the stage right in front of where the man Ed would be for most
of the night!!
Then the lights went down and the loud stuttered guitar of Like I do cut through
the screams of the crowd. Ed was definitely making a more conscious effort to rock
from the word go here. It seemed as though he was determined to have a great
last gig in oz even though the crowd was slightly smaller than that of the previous
night. Finishing both Like I do and The Sanctity of dreams with two arms above his
head urging the crowd on. Chad T and Adam both sported dark sunnies for the opening
two numbers. All Over You went off as it had the previous night combining the slow
verse ( the whole arena sang this part so loud ) with a chorus that sits at the perfect
pace for getting the crowd to bounce up and down. The crowd was also lapping up the
first older tune in the set. They stood up for love started with Chad and Adam replacing
the keyboard part with a heavy guitar riff but as good as this song is it doesnít
sit as well without the keyboard groove that is the meat of the song. The crowd still
responded with generous applause.
At this point Ed mentioned that the band would have to dig deep for this one after
being out til 7 in the morning. Something I can confirm having spoken to both he
and Chad at approx 6am in a Melbourne night club (a whole other story).
The band rocked through the middle section of the set with the stand out tunes being
run away and the incredible Lakiniís Juice. This song kicked Rod Laver Arena in the
ass and set the tone for the remainder of the set. Run to the water received the
response of a classic that it now appears to have become even though itís a fairly
cruising tune. Dolphins cry was brilliant and had the whole crowd on there feet and
singing in the chorus as Ed prowled from one side of the stage to another inviting
the crowd to help him with the love will lead us ALLRIGHT! The middle sectin of I
alone proved interesting when as he did the night before Ed broke into Like a sone
but with the same melody line as Gasoline ( audioslave ).
Heaven proved to be one of the highlights of the night proving the quality of material
on the new album is a welcome return to Edís best song writing form.
Ed returned solo with an acoustic version of I will overcome although it sounded
tuned down to a different key to that of the album which slightly detracted from
the effect of this brilliant song. The previous night Ed had performed Turn My head
at this point of the show which was a much more memorable moment.
The rest of the show involved the boys rockig out to hits off Throwing Copper and
Lighthouse ( Much better live than on B.O.P ).
White discussion was huge although Ed did not climb up on Chadís guitar stack as
he had done the previous night and Chad didnít leave the guitar humbing up against
the stack either.
Dance with you was a cool way to finish the concert although I preferred the guys
to exit one by one as they did with the Distance to Here tour.
All in all another great show to back up the night before. Ed claimbed that Oz loves
live so much theyíll still be touring here when theyíre wearing pace makers. The
band had gotten through another big show even though they were all very tired. Especially
Ed.
He said they were all looking forward to making their way home and left the stage
shirtless and sweaty. I couldnít believe how although he had been out the night before
til late he still had so much pride in his own voice that he emptied every
bit of energy that he had to sing and put on a show that I would have been proud
to be at had it been their first for a year.
Well done Live and well done ED you guys are world class professionals that still
know how to Rock!!! Rock On live!!! |
