Riley of Australia |
Ok the Adelaide concert went well with
a kickass performance of "Lakinis juice" and "White, discussion"
as well as a beautiful performance of "Turn my head". There was a problem
or two though - I thought.
Firstly - this's not Live's fault - but the audience were stiff as corpses.
I was sitting in the back row and I swear I felt like poking some of the audience
members just to see if they were awake.
I was also rather disappointed that they didn't perform "Voodoo Lady" *or*
"Dance with you". These are two of my personal favourites, and they seem
to perform them at most gigs they do. I think they performed them in Sydney last
Friday too but oh well. Still, they did a fine job of all their other songs.
Last problem was that I couldn't meet them :( .. strange how you get to feel you
know the band from their videos & music but once you're in concert it's pretty
impersonal. I would very much like to meet the lads someday.
Anyway, I can't remember the exact setlist, but they performed all the Birds of Prey
numbers and some of the classics, with two 'encores'. Ed forgot the lyrics in one
of the BOP songs - Sweet Release - I think it was.
Anyway, there's my review. |

(UTS) of Adelaide, Australia |
It was a pretty good concert, started
off a bit slow with Like I Do, sounded like Ed started singing too soon, should have
let the guitar intro go a bit longer. The Sanctity of Dreams was excellent live,
Run Away was also another good song from BoP. Ed forgot the verse lyrics of Sweet
Release, he finished off the song well, so that saved it.
I thought the standout songs were definately Lakini's Juice, Shit Towne, They Stood
Up for Love, and White, Discussion to close the show. Ed's acoustic version of Turn
My Head was brilliant.
Chad Gracey played a couple of huge drum solos in LJ (I think) and WD at the end.
Haven't seen him do that before, definately a highlight.
No real criticism, would like to hear more songs from V and SS, but the song selection
was otherwise good.
Epicure were very good in their short set. Train were also good, especially the Led
Zep covers, with Take A Walk On the Wild Side in there aswell. I thought they trailed
off a bit towards the end, but they finished well with Drops of Jupiter.
The crowd was bigger than the V tour, the Ent Cent was probably 90% full. I thought
they were a bit quiet, but it's hard for a crowd of only a few thousand to compete
with the volume of the bands. I definately have to get to one of those sold out concerts
in Syd and Melb next tour.
Got to meet the band after the show. They were all very nice and signed a few things
for me.
A great show as always, thanks to Homespun for the meet and greet passes. |

Hall (rock_On) of Adelaide, Australia |
I just got home from Melbourne. Ears
are ringing like you wouldn't believe! People have been trying to talk to me for
the past 20 hours, and have had to repeat everything at least twice for me to understand
them! Quite embarrassing!
So, Iris! I've decided to cut with my slackness and give a quick review of the Adelaide
gig - even though someone else got in before me! Opinions can alter!!!
SO... no differences in setlists, obviously!
The entertainment centre was holding a few more people than on the last tour, however
the stage was just over half way forward and not even then were all the seats full.
It was a disgraceful effort by Adelaide, not as bad as last time, so we're getting
there slowly, but it was still a pretty shitty effort!!
Alright, so.. on with the show!
Epicure: Regardless of what anyone else says, I quite enjoyed their performance,
especially "Armies Against Me". I love that song! They were pretty damn
good! Better than the other two bigger support bands that Live has had with them
(IE Stabbing Westward and Sugar Ray)
Train: Oh my fuck! Has that man got a good voice or what?! The notes he held were
amazing. I never thought I would have ever enjoyed Train as much as I did, but it
turns out that I am now extremely fond of them! "SING IT MATE, SING IT!!!!"
Like I Do:
I knew this was the opener, even though I didn't want to know - but Mr Eamon over
here decided that he would post it in Fansoflive without me knowing about it!!!
When the lights went down and the little radio frequency thing started my heart STOPPED!
No word of a lie. I'm getting all butterflyey (Not a word? Yeah, I just made it one!)
just thinking about it! It was an amazing performance by the boys.
The Sanctity of Dreams:
What can I say? Made me go pretty mental! Well.. as mental as I could go without
my bag with my camera in it breaking... so.. mildly mental!!
All Over You:
I believe that this song pumped the entire crowd. It wouldn't have mattered if noone
knew the song, everyone would have had a bit of a dance, if dancing is what you'd
call it!
They Stood Up For Love:
I was extremely happy to hear this song, especially the rock version instead of he
acoustic like last tour. They Stood Up For Love is one of my favourite songs off
TDTH, and my godfather, did they nail it, or did they nail it? MARVELLOUS JOB BOYS!
Shit Towne:
Extremely appropriate for Adelaide, wouldn't ya say? ST went absolutely OFF!! It
was great! Everybody was going nuts, it was great timing in the set for Shit Towne.
Pain Lies:
"This is a song from our first album. And for all you Triple M listeners, it
is NOT Throwing Copper!!" -Ed
OH... I was in Heaven! I was hoping against all hope that Live would give me another
taste of a live Mental Jewelry song, and ta-da! They did... I have to admit, I was
one of the very few that knew the song and was dancin about actin like a retard,
but.. Talk about rockin ya socks off!
Run Away:
Ed's favourite Birds Of Pray song to date. I have to admit, it wasn't my favourite
song on the album, still isn't really.. But shit, did I fall back in love with it
severely or what?! sheesus!
Sweet Release:
The crowd were diggin' it!! Twas heaps good! Made me laugh when Ed buggered it up,
and was then like "Ahhh.. you know it"!!!
Life Marches On:
I've always LOVED it when Ed does the little add in bits in the "Politicians
beat their drum" and "Sky scrapers touch the sky", and... yeah.. I
was LOVIN the whole song! Especially because the 3 or 4 days before the gig I was
out in the country, and it was kinda nice to get away, and yeah... I can relate to
that song soo much better now
"WHAT HAPPENED TO OUR GENERATION?"
Lakini's Juice:
Ohh.. what to say? Fucking GREAT... How's that? Tis always a given that Ed will come
up the front with Chadster and do a bit of full on stompin, so I was expecting it,
but my GOD! So good!!
Run To The Water:
OWWWWW YEAH!!!! No "These Adelaide streets below the moon" but that's Ok..
because "Adelaide" doesn't really go in there too well!! I, along with
many others, would have missed RTTW if the boys didn't play it for us, I'm sure of
that
The Dolphin's Cry:
I wasn't expecting TDC to follow straight after RTTW, I even thought before hand
that it might be a bad idea if they were to do something like that, but it fit in
like a bath plug - A good one!!! haha... Was truly awesome
I Alone:
ALWAYS a priveledge to hear I Alone.
Heaven:
There wouldnt have been ONE person that didn't enjoy Heaven. I was lovin it, the
crowd was lovin it, and I reckon the boys were lovin that we were all lovin it and
you get the idea! It rocked!
Encore: I soooo knew it was gonna happen!!!! haha
Turn My Head:
Well... I umm... shed some tears.. I hadn't heard Turn My Head acoustic before. Just
Ed and his guitar. It was a great moment.
Selling The Drama:
Another good ol' jumpin and going mental song!!! Another big success.
Lighthouse:
One word, and a lot of exclaimation marks: ROCKIN'!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lightning Crashes:
Another tear jerker, especially after telling the crowd that 12 hours ago, Ed and
Adams last grandmother passed away, so naturally I started thinking about my grandmothers
and mildly lost it. Always a pleasure hearing LC.
White, Discussion:
You have NO idea how extremely happy I was that our boys decided to close with this
song. Great stomping sequences by Chadness, and a bloody good performance by Gracey,
not to mention Pat boppin along there, and Adam showin' us his feedback skills, and
let us not forget the front man, Ed runnin about on the stage! Next time Ed, that
bit in the song where you dont know what to do? Just come down and have a bit of
a chin wag with me or somethin!!
OVERALL:
I was a little surprised that no songs off V made it to the setlist, and I was a
little upset that Pillar of Davidson didn't make the set, but.. what can ya do? I
had one of the best nights of my life. The set list was GREAT, the audience were
better than last tour, and the guys were so much happier and psyched than last tour
aswell.
Rating: 7/10 (But only because the next two nights in Melbourne were fucking GREAT)
After the show (Backstage):
Well, who feels like the biggest jackarse in the whole of Australia? SAM DOES! That's
right!
Well.. Here we all were, sitting, waiting anxiously for the boys to come in. I'm
saying over and over in my mind, 'just be calm, they're only your DAMN IDOLS!!!!!'..
well, the pep talk didn't really work too well. I did remain calmish.. but I was
shaking all over and got all my words muddled and.. oh dear..
So.. We shall go alphabetically because I'll be buggered if I can remember who I
spoke to first!>>
Meeting Adam Kowalczyk:
Really nice guy. Gave him my Looking Up From The Ground CD and he's like "Oh,
wow", and I said something stupid like "Yeah man, your band rocks"
or "I love your band" or something really retarded, and then he turns around
and is like: "There's not really a band anymore, but I'm still writing".
That was a bit of a shock, i had NO idea what to say! - Sorry Adam. Will miss The
Weight. Good luck for your future, even though with your talent, I'm sure that you
wont need any luck.
Meeting Chad Gracey:
Well.. Here's the worst one. As many of you know, Chad Gracey is the member of the
band which I idolise and appreciate his talent immensely. So, this is obviously the
time when you get your words muddled up and tell your favourite person "I'm
your idol" instead of "You're my idol" I tell ya what, who feels like
a tard? Sam does! So, anyways, he's like "You're my idol?", so there's
me thinkin 'ohhhh you fucking idiot - so much for CALMNESS!', I replied "Well,
no, but I will be if you want me to!!" and blah blah, sign this, hug me, et
cetera, right?
THEN, the photo incident. Noone had heard what I'd said before, and I had totally
forgot about photos, so, I said to Chad out loud "Chad, do you want a photo
with your idol?" and he's like "Yeah, alright", and everyone proceeded
to LAUGH AT ME!!!! So, there's me like a fucken doofus, grinnin like a... something
that grins... and thinkin 'MORON, you absolute MORON!'
So, Chad, if you're reading this, I'm sorry mate. There was a lot more that I should
have said, but couldn't for fear of saying something totally inappropriate, like...
How's about them Blue M&Ms?
Meeting Chad Taylor:
My sister decided to break the ice with "Hi, I think you're gorgeous".
So, that kinda drew the attention away from the REAL FAN!! hahaha.. it was pretty
damn funny though, cuz he told her that she was gorgeous aswell. So.. Naturally I
gave Chadster a hug, and told him that "That was some first class stompin' tonight",
and he kindly stomped for me. Thank you darlin'!
Meeting Ed Kowalczyk:
Oh shit, here we go...
Sorry for my behaviour Ed.. haha
Right, so... I walk up to the poor fella, give him a hug, and say to him "Thank
you for your music", and he said something like "You're welcome" or
whatever he says to people that tell him this. I got him to sign my CD, and after,
I'm like "OHH, fucken another photo i forgot", so.. I went back, got a
photo with him, and I began to fill up, didn't I? I told him that he pulled me through
the worst times in my life, and I thanked him very much for all he's done for me.
Well, just saying that to his face got me going.. There I was, eyes leaking like
a faulty drain pipe, and then he says to me "What? Just me, the band, or the
music..?" And I said "The music!" and he asks "Are you alright
now sweety?" And i said yes, and he poked me on the cheek >>And yes,
I have washed my face since!!! So, sorry for having to cry like a baby in front of
you.. but I knew I had to say it. Thank you again.
Meeting Pat Dahlheimer:
I walked up to Pat, my sister in front, she shakes his hand, gets a photo, and then
we switched, and he says "Is this a family affair, is it?" and I laughed,
because everything was funny because it was LIVE and they're just brilliant. Even
if they stood up and decided to use a female comedian's comedy routine, I still woulda
cracked it. So, I'm like "Oh yeah, it is!!" And that's all I can remember...
cept a hug and a signature and yeah
All up> All of them are really nice blokes. Would love to do it again, and next
time I would try to contain myself just a little more... hmmm...
NOTHING, and i mean NOTHING, can beat meeting the Livey boys! It was an honour.
You're all sweethearts, and I love ya . |
