Well what can I say Brisbane rocked
last night.
Ok first off to the Brisbane guys who hit gilhooleys and especially Bonnie, I'm sorry
I didnt make it. I was holed up in a hotel room with another band discussing their
new line up. (blatent plugg here for those who live in Brissy you must make it a
to do for 2004 to go see Tunnel Vision. The boys have a new line up with a fuller
sound. If your addicted to the BIG FAT JUICY ROCK sound these are going to be the
guys to have a look at)<<<< ok plugg over.
Right made it to the concert sporting my "Falcon Jones" Shirt with mate
Lisa also sporting her "Falcon Jones" shirt. Scoped out place heaps of
people from every age/facet of the community. Lisa and I played a game while waiting
for our third (Natasha also sporting a "Falcon Jones" shirt). Our game:-"how
long to spot the Train T-Shirt verses How long to spot the Live T-Shirt" I think
it was under a second for the Live shirt and the clock is still running for the Train
contingent.
Chatted with a few people....found it appauling that they wouldnt give bottle water
but would pour it into a cup for you. Went in to our "SEATS" at 8.00pm
Caught the tail end of the local guys ... not bad then waited for the show to start.
Train comes on WOW I didnt know he could sing like that. Man I dont think I've ever
heard a note held for so long with such strength. Started to get a wee bit bored
with train only cause the songs were unfamiliar certainly not with their calabare.
They Guys are good and I'm thinking I will investigate them further. Led Zepp tribute
and I'm deffinatly investigating these guys further. Train finish up and I look to
my Natasha with a wtf ...I only know Calling all angels and Drops of jupitor and
they've missed the latter. Stupid Stupid me Lights go back up and off they go the
crowd god love em goes wild!!! WICKED!!!!!
ok Intermission out for a chain smoke and an over priced paper cup of water!!!!!
Back in and the hype is starting to build. Lights go down crowd goes off then the
light show starts and I've never heard Like I do sound so damn good. The lights were
trippy. If I was a stoner I would have been in heavan!!!! (though the beginning of
like I do does sound a bit like a chopper coming in so the paranoia's may have set
in.) Fortunatley I'm stone cold sober hahahaha.
Show progresses and again I'm disappointed with the amount of rigid bums in seats.
"I alone" kicks in and the crowd cant be contained. The whole stall infront
of us jump up and go off thats my que I'm up smashing my hand down on the metal rail
in time with the music. (my wrist is still killing me). Show progresses with a lot
of Birds of Pray and a few oldies "Shit towne" and "Pain lies on the
riverside" were a major bonus and you could pick the old livers who were chanting
along. "White discussion" and "Lakini's Juice" were also in there
and Chad true to form went off.
The highlight of the show was when the boys said goodnight and the lights went down,
the crowd started with a low rumble which just got louder and louder, people started
stamping the floor and the rumble became a RAW. You could feel the vibration from
the stomping and the raw go through you, I could feel blood pumping through my veins
and my temples were about to explode. I looked around me and people were grinning
from ear to ear. It was a very primevil experience. So picture this people are growling
and stamping their feet its getting bigger and bigger you think your going to explode
and BANG!the spotlight goes up and hits Ed standing on stage with his guitar and
the crowd goes just FUCKING BESERK!!!!! It was awesome! It was feverpitched. It was
piss your pants excitment!!!!
Ed sings "Overcome" the crowd is instantly quiet and the sea of lighters
goes up. Talk about going from the one extreme to another a deafening raw to lump
in your throat and tears in your eyes. It's Ed by himself with his guitar then slowly
you hear it, a bit of a hum at first then all eventually the entire audience singing
back to Ed. (Mate I can think of nothing more spiritual than listening to your fellow
citizens singing in unisen to a beautiful song. I was moved beyond words.)
Well I must say this would have to be one of my longest posts and one of my most
excited. BRISBANE YOU DID US PROUD!!!! YOU ROCKED!!!! |

We arrived at the Entertainment Centre
at about 3.30pm and immediately went straight down to Stage Door to see if we could
sneak in a peak, but no luck, we had to go back to the main entrance as the doors
were about to open. NO CAMERAS - PERIOD! We had to check them into the cloak room
- damn it! Anyways we made our way to Door 3, the doors opened and bang we were front
row, CENTRE! Right in front of Ed, i swear i could feel his sweat dripping on me
we were that close.
Setlist was pretty much similar to the other gigs, opener was 'Like I do' we also
got 'SHIT TOWNE' which the crowd absolutely loved. 'Lakinins Juice' - Chad T you
have definately started a new dance trend with that stomp!!!!! Holy shit he went
off and then had Ed joining him at the end, right in front of us! The setlist was
perfect, 'Heaven' 'Sweet Release' 'I Alone' 'All over you' 'Dolphins Cry' 'Stood
up for love' 'Overcome' 'Life Marches On' - oohh and the crowd just kept begging
for more. Ed was totally overwhelmed by it all, they were really rocking the house
down. Chad T I have to say it again, man he went sick. But what was even better is
when they played 'Selling the Drama' - holy crap these guys are the best of the best.
OK it's the end of the set and just as they were about to walk off stage is when,
THE BANNER! made it's apperance and Chad T thought i'll have that. Of course we yelled
and screamed for more and that's what they gave us. I've probably already told you
some of the songs they sang in encore but the closer was the best performance ever
of White, Discussion. What a way to end the night, it was BRILLANT!
Standing where we were was awesome, I got a shirt specially made for the night which
read on the front 'Straight Outta York' and on the back it had 'FOL.COM'. Half way
during the main set Chad T was doing his thing when he looked at me so I showed him
my shirt and he smiled!
The show has ended, my ears are ringing like bastards and my feet are sore. Maz,
Brett, Bonnie, Laura, Jess, my sister and I then made our way to the Stage Door.
No, no backstage passes for us but wait! After about an hour or so Patrick came out,
tired he went straight back to the hotel. Then out came Chad G., Chad T who said
'holy fuckin shit' when he saw us all waiting, and Ed. Well autographs were signed,
i got my shirt signed, and photos were taken. When I got my photo taken with Ed I
couldn't help myself I just had to give him a hug, he then turned and looked at me
and said 'aahh aren't you so sweet' then kissed me. Yes that is the point where i
melted. Ed told us where they were going for drinks and told us to come along, so
we did.
Look this is getting long enough but basically the rest of the night was spent drinking
with Ed and Chad G and a few boys from Train. Thanks Brisbane! Thanks +LiVE+ you
have given me the best memories a person could ever wish for. |

Live mine past to woo future fans
By: John O'Brien - December 11
THE only better thing than Live is Live live.
That was the sentiment of the near-capacity crowd that turned out for the band's
Brisbane Entertainment Centre show last night.
The audience was subdued as Live opened with Like I Do and Sanctity
of Dreams from the new album Birds Of Pray.
But the faithful soon ignited when the band launched into classics such as All
Over You and Shit Towne from the breakthrough Throwing Copper album
of a decade ago.
And Live mined their back catalogue even deeper, going all the way back to their
debut efforts from Mental Jewellery.
But the emphasis was on Birds of Pray, which has topped the charts worldwide
in the six months since its global release.
The addition of an extra string man gave the four piece more punch as front man Ed
Kowalczyk worked the crowd.
The US outfit has been touring Australia on an annual basis of late having found
a dedicated following Down Under. |
