My friend and I got to see this one,
and it absolutely blew us away. We'd only been to two major concerts before, and
neither had disappointed us, so we were desperately hoping that Live would follow
the trend. And they did, wonderfully. Ed's voice was just phenomenal, and he looked
like he was having so much fun, prowling about the stage. In "Like I Do"
he took off the shirt, for which I can't really blame him as it was about 35 degrees
Celsius, but everything was just ... perfect. We got "Shit Towne", which
was unexpected but cool, and "White, Discussion". The only other thing
I could have wanted was "Simple Creed", but there was no chance of them
performing that. Just ... brilliant. Iota and the Lizard Men were the openers, and
they rocked too! |

Best venue yet for LIVE in Sydney,
opened with compilation video spanning past 13 years. Crowd fully pumped, LIVE delivered
beyond expectations! Ed was insatiable with black singlet, dress pants and shades!
Good enough to eat. Faultless gig under extreme heat conditions (hottest day in Sydney
for 22 years). Completely satisfied. Can't wait for next album and tour. |

The Sydney concert was absolutely awsome!
The show was sold out, and poeple were queing in 40 degree heat for hours to get
it. The concert was a very different style than last year's - much more intimate,
and it really felt like a celebration of Live's achievement - almost a homecoming
- and the crowd felt it. There was a real buzz in the air all night. I was so pleased
to get a spot 3 rows in from the front. I walked out dripping with sweat and smiling
from ear to ear! I only wish I had tickets to the Newcastle show becuase I would
have definately done it all over again! The only thing that could have bettered the
night is if I got to meet the guys - next time I hope! Ed was, as always, very cheeky
and worked the crowd the way only he knows how! They had so much energy and it all
transpired to the crowd that was pumping with emotion. I was so pleased they did
"We deal in dreams" - it is a highlight on the Awake album. Laikinis Juice
- as always - got the crowd roaring. I hope its not too long until they return to
Oz! |

I was at the concert on Tuesday night,
and it went OFF! The crowd roared proudly with the visualisation of the Mental Jewelry
cover, and even louder as the next album cover came up. The Hordern provided a more
intimate setting than the Ent Cent ever would, could or has. The songs were awesome,
I knew every word to their songs, and was really gettin into it. When they played
"Dance With You", I was really worried at first, because that was a special
song I had with a girlfriend, and the relationship didn't work out, so the first
chord was hit and I didn't know how to react. But I went with it and didn't think
about her once. The music simply BLEW ME AWAY.
After the concert, I went around back, and waited with about 30 others. CT bummed
us a bit, as he left earlier than the others, and wouldn't sign anything. But not
too long after, CG came out, met us etc, signed stuff of course, followed quickly
by Pat, who I had a relatively long conversation with about playin bass, because
I too play bass (yes ok - it wasn't that long. I used the word RELATIVELY for good
reason). Soon after that, the man of the moment came out with his brother Adam along
side, and I got both their signatures, shook hands etc etc, and we screamed after
them as they drove off out of the arena. Meeting them is the greatest moment of my
life to date - until the next concert anyway.

HELLO! I went and saw Live last night
at the Hordern Pavillion and I justr have to say, this is the 3rd time I've seen
them play and everytime they manage to hit this tiny spot of softness in my heart!
I love you guys! I'm a bit worried though because I know Live like Australia a lot,
and there's a high chance of me moving to America sometime in the next year or so.
I hope they play there as much as they do here! It's the highlight of the year! A
Big thumbs up for Ed and the lads! |

Great to see alot more energy from
the crowd this time as compared to last year. I was soaked in some sort of clear
liquid which is more than I can say for last year... I think the band really appreciated
the crowds enthusiasm.
Ed, CT and Adam were rockin' as hard as ever... Pat was his usual laid-back self
- eyes closed (feeling the groove) nearly every time I took my gaze of Ed or CT.
Pat really got into I Walk the Line though... I am not a big fan of the song but
when it hits the chorus and CT and Adam come in with the LOUD guitars, you can't
help but get into it.
The highlight of the night was probably Shit Towne. You know when it is coming -
Ed picks up his black gibson with the red star... gotta love his little "solos".
I always like hearing/seeing Pats intro to I Alone, and Eds ramblings in the part
where he is supposed to be singing lyrics from another song.
I am sure the highlight of the night for most of the women in the crowd was when
Ed finally took off his sweaty singlet, revealing his sweaty, toned body! Speaking
of which... is Ed a chest waxer?
One last thing... last night was apparantly the first time the band had played We
Deal in Dreams in front of a crowd... that is a Live first for me. |

Well last night was my first LIVE concert
ever, even though I have been a fan since 1997. Yay I am no longer a virgin LIVE
concert goer! Oh my god that was the best gig I have seen ever, it was so slick.
It rocked and I was pleased with their choice of setlist. My highlight was when they
noticed the banner that Friends Of Live - "Awake and On Tour people had over
the front barrier - Chad Gracey noticed and we all saw it too hehehe lol!!! I was
so glad that we got right up the front (chest touching barrier and hands over it
we had the best view in the house). One of my favs was Shit Towne as well as TSUFL,
Like I Do and Lighting Crashes.
For the people yet to see the show you will not be disappointed. Overall an awesome
concert that I was on such a high. |

The Hordern Pavillion: small, intimate,
HOT!!! Not only the weather but Ed!!! The crowd was pumped and the people seated
in the stands began 'the wave', then as the crowd got inpatient the LIVE chant and
feet thumping started.
I was still in awe that I was about to experience LIVE again. The guys delivered
and Ed worked the audience, his hip moving actions, intense facial expressions and
extraordinary vocals.
No fancy stage set-up, no fancy costumes, just beautiful music. My soul is touched
by their music and Ed's grace and Tuesday night simply reiterates the reasons why
I love these guys so much. The crowd went off when Ed told us that we were the first
to have "We Deal in Dreams" played to. Other favourites like 'Lakini's
Juice', 'I Alone' just rocked the Pavillion. It was so sweet when Ed was singing
'Heaven' and changed the line to "I look at my daughters, and I believe!' Finishing
with 'Lightning Crashes' was the icing on the cake.
Once again a great gig, the guys from LIVE rock!!!! And Ed you are such a tease!!!! |

Wow, Iím so happy with Live right now.
Last night, the Hordern Pavilion rocked something phenomenal.
My second Live show, hereís the go from the startÖ
Rocked up there with brother and girlfriend. Had to start by throwing out five water
bottles because they werenít allowed in. Smart thinking! The weather was HOT and
humid and they were selling bottles of water for about three dollars each. GrrÖ
Anyway after a brief pit stop, went insideÖthis was going to be an awesome night-
the Hordern Pavilion is less than half the size of the Sydney Entertainment Centre,
where I saw Live for the first time last December. We were gonna be so much closer
to the band this time!
It being hot (and considering the elegant company I had) we picked our seats to the
right of the stage with a good view. About 8pm the support act "iOTA and the
Lizard Men" took to the stage with some wacky, funky, poppish/rock. They started
alright and the singerís dancing around looked ok, but they didnít really seem to
appeal to the crowd much and their biggest cheer was when iOTA announced that they
were playing their last song and LIVE would be up nextÖI thought they were alright,
certainly their last song rocked pretty well, but perhaps some more catchy songs
would have done better, they were a little too alternative for the most part despite
their energy.
Anyway, there ensued a bit of a wait, a discussion with my beautiful guest about
the merits of iOTA and some further sweltering in what was now a jam-packed venue.
9pmÖlights dimÖcrowd goes NUTSÖinstrumental version of Overcome comes over the PA
and the big screen behind the stage starts showing, year by year, the album covers
and various clips from the bandís careerÖvery very cool and epic opening! It made
me feel that this show was going to be quite special. Big cheers came when all of
the album covers came up, until the screen displayed the words "right here,
right now" and then there was LIVE!
All Over You was first up, initially I was a little miffed at this, since last gig
it was great to build up to my favourite Live songÖbut by the time they got into
the bridge I was thinking "NothingÖNOTHINGÖcan beat this!" I noticed that
just like last time, the whole front of the standing audience was jumping up and
down in unisonÖlooked great! ED got a rousing cheer from the ladies, teasing with
his black singlet and shades.
They Stood Up For Love began with Chad and Adam rockiní out on guitars and here I
first noticed how good Edís voice was sounding! The lights dimmed between each song
and they were really getting through the changeups quickly.
Selling the Drama was up and I was surprised they played it this early on, but it
rocked as well, Edís harmonies with Chad and Adam sounded great. Again, marvellous
work by Ed.
Then they played Run Away but this version was awesome, Edís voice sounded great
and the only thing missing was Chadís solo. Live seems to be making an effort to
really make their songs special.
Ed then started saying how "this song I wrote when I was young and very p****d
off about where I came fromÖitís still a s*** towne"
Needless to say, this song rocked and I got to see Ed play the solo on electric guitar
for the first time ever! Chadís drumming was cool and the band really really built
up for this one. Audience was having a great time!
We Deal In Dreams. I really like this song and in concert they played it at the right
speed! Ed mentioned it was the first time theyíd performed it at a gig (aside from
to their family pets), which got a great cheer- in the bridge he did some sweet high
vocal improvs.
Then they took a little while to set things up and Chad came down to play on a hand
drum. Ed said "if you know the words, sing real loud" and together with
Pat on bass, started on a rendition of "The Distance" and got the crowd
into this one, it grooved along nicely too.
Next, a song by U2ÖI thought for a moment that it was a new song and that Live had
gone all U2-like! Luckily notÖRunning to Stand Still was nice though!
Like I Do: the semiquaver shocks came out over the PA and the lights went all weird
before they exploded into thisÖa much more solid performance than last year I thought,
thought my brother hates this song=P
Operation Spirit. I canít remember much of this, apart from that it was my highlight
of the night. The lighting was perfect for this song, with green flashes and images
from the screen behind the band. It was snappy, funky and rocked soo dam hard. Absolutely
great. The only one from Mental Jewelry that they played, but it was awesome!
I Walk The LineÖnot bad- the choruses were great however!
Lakiniís Juice, started with Chad and Adam making some huge noises out of their amps
and shaking things up- most people guessed what was going on and I could see the
crowd starting to move a lot already! Ed started singing and the crescendos were
so energetic right through to the chorus where it was amazing, the whole crowd was
jumping up and down, right up to almost the back- it was great to watch. The seats
were shaking noticeably with people rocking out! Chad T has the best stomp.
The Dolphinís Cry. I loved this performance, it had a great verse and the chorus
was great, Edís voice was just GREAT!! The seats were shaking again and Chadís drumming
sounded sweet, he nailed every fill, especially my favourite right near the end!
I Alone (with "Imagine")ÖThis was fun! They started with the intro and
Ed chanting "love" and doing some GREAT vocal improvisations, before counting
it inÖand it was cool to the maxx. (Thatís right, 2 xís!) They got to the bridge
and Ed started singing some words to "Imagine" but a little high and imprecise,
so he stopped and laughed and said "Iím supposed to be singing a song here,
but why donít I just shuttup and you do the singing insteadÖyou want to sing??"
Then the whole crowd joined in the bridge and they rocked out the rest, great song!!
Heaven- solid and Edís voice again was magnificent, the crowd knew all the words
and "for myself" was the line he let us all scream out.
The lights dimmed after the band went off but we all knew much more was to come and
the clapping and cheering was huge. A few moments later and Ed came back on, singing
with an acoustic guitar and the PA accompaniment to Overcome. Sounded great and Edís
vocals were quite astounding, his falsetto is as strong as his normal range- which
itself is amazing!
Run To The Water. Another great anthem, of course Ed snuck in the line "these
Sydney streetsÖ" to much applause. Big response for this and Edís soaring voice
just great. I donít know what heís been up to but that voice is simply phenomenal,
fits the music perfectly and he does it so easily!!
They played Dance With You and I thinkÖChad Gracey missed an opening! But even that
and Chad Tís occasional feedback problems in other songs didnít make much difference,
I think it showed they werenít some well-oiled perfection machine and we could relate
to them better. Of course, it helped being so close!!
White, Discussion. Not as charged as last yearís huge finale (Dec 5, Sydney) but
a very very cool version nonetheless- Chad G rocked out on drums so hard, it was
incredible to watch exactly when the band took it up a notch. Ed in the breaks made
it clear that he didnít vote for George Bush to which he got a solid cheer! When
he mentioned LIVE should come to Australia to stay, that was another great yellÖwhen
he suggested some 200 million Americans should come as well, that shout was a bit
more mixed! Haha, but they finished great and I was wanting more!
Lightning Crashes. Chad started with a big grungy chord, then changed his settings
and started the riff. Of course, everyone went crazy! Ed thanked us all for coming,
he said they would be working on a new album to be out in the Spring (American spring
I guess) and theyíd be back soon- very excellent news to my ears! A nice rendition
of Lightning Crashes later (Chad letting Adam shine on his backing vocals) and LIVE
left us to a standing ovation that rocked the place.
Great show, an amazing feeling and theyíre still my favourite band! I canít wait
to get more of LIVE in Australia soon. |
Review by Aaron of Australia |
Well, I don't really know where to
start. This was my first LIVE concert since being majorly in love with the lyrics
since I was about 12, I'm now 21 so took my time getting there, and all I can think
now, is WHY DID I TAKE SOO LONG !!!!
It was mind blowing, ok, the support act wasn't really my thing, but when they said
it was there last song and LIVE would be on in 5 minutes, my heart raced, I have
never been so nervous/ecited in all my life. I was really lucky to be right in front
3 rows & when the back screen started showing the Mental Jewelry album, everyone
went crazy, and I felt overwelmed with this feeling of spiritual awareness that was
coming from everyone there. If love were energy, the room would have been like an
electric storm. You could just feel the energy raging from everyone, it was best
thing I think I have ever had the privlige of experiencing, the only thing I'm worried
about now is the next concert I go, will I get dissappointed if its not as good as
I remember this one. But then again, you can never compare anything to the loss of
virginity and that is what this felt like. When Ed came out onto the stage, I rememer
looking up at him and I thought I was going to cry, I couldn't
believe it. Finally, I was so close to the man who sings the words that I fear to
say. When he started singing "our love is like water" I was torn between
closing my eyes and letting his voice take me to the place I always go to whenever
I hear a LIVE song, or leave my eyes open so I didn't miss a thing. The whole night
I was praying for Lighning Crashes and Dance With Me. And I think he knew alot of
people were wanting those songs as he left them 'till the encore just to be a tease.
Thanks to Eddie, I have started writing again, not much, but to me it's the world.
I feel like I have been given a second chance to have this gift which I lost several
years ago now. For the first 3 days after the concert, everynight without fail, I
would go to a peaceful place with my wine, my candle, my packet of cigerettes and
my discman, my LIVE Cd's, and my book and pen. I would sit there breathing freely
for the first time for that day it would seem, close my eyes, and after a while I
would put the music and let it just take me away, then when I was calm, relaxed &
free, I would let my soul come out.
Getting back to the concert anyways, I will never forget it, it was truly a journey
that I don't think anything will ever come close to in my mind. Keep on living LIVE,
you are an inspiration to all who hear you, and a saviour to all who let you be.
Your words of wisdom take us to a place where there is no negativity, no cruelty,
but most importantly, NO BULLSHIT. From the bottom of my heart, I love you guys &
cannot wait till you next turn the key to our hearts in Sydney. |
