Hmmm ... where should I start? Should
I tell you bout the whole trip, bout getting lost on our way top the Dome, bout listening
to all the cds for about 6h's before the show, about meeting up with some really
cool other +LIVE+ fans in the parking lot? Naaaahhh, you'd just skip it anyway. Let's
get down to business.
Got there at 4pm, went to find to ticket office. It was closed. Ask security about
it. They did not know. Had a few extra drinks (this was repeated over and over quite
a few times) eventually got to the ticket office and gave them my name - I wa then
handed an enveleope with the 2 purple ( for the frustrating wait ) "aftershow"
passes. Had to hide them inside my pants cause a lot of people would have loved to
steal them. Got into the show at around 5:45. Was already packed. Here I have to
say it was definitely better to have golden circle tickets, you have a lot more room
to actually sit around etc. Also, try and drink before-hand if you have 2, it is
hell-out expensive, R11.00 for a castle and you can't even take in the bottle, which
is plastic. Okay, okay, making this story 2 long ... Eventually the lights went out,
Prime Circle came on and did their set. I must say that I do like this band and I
think they are going to get really far, but like at Oppikoppi, their show was too
short and not intense.
Then the moment we've been waiting for for 3 years. The lights dimmed, you could
hear the familiar sound of a guitar being plugged in .... I wanted to make this part
of the post really exiting, but I'm to tired... here's the setlist with my comments.
Please remember that you're show could be different and these opinions are my personal
ones.
As you'll see I copied and pasted the setlist from their previous last few shows
with the exception of "pain lies on the riverside". That in itself was
a bit dissapointing. I really thought there'd be some changes.
Now, for the guys that got the "aftershow" passes. Listen carefully otherwise
you will not meet the band!! Right after the show go to the side of the stage ( ask
security which side ). Do not go to the redcarper VIP area ... that is NOT for you.
The VIP area are like for people with blue bands and they get free drinks etc, but
do not get to meet the band. You have to find out where the band is going to be and
get there fast. I was really dissapointed with the security in this sense, no-one
could tell us where the hell to go, sat around at the VIP entrance for about 10 min.
Luckliy someone told us where to go. We had to run and were very very lucky to get
in. Another word of caution. Make sure you have your cd-covers, cameras, guitars,
posters etc with you when you go into the show. There is no time to go and fetch
anything in the time after the show and meeting the band. I took my guitar along
but left it in the car and there was no time to go get it. Even asked Paul ( look
very important, nice old american man, very understanding - come to think of it,
he kinda looked like the old man from Jurassic park ), could I go get it, he said
no, but only because I wouldn't make it back in time.
Righto, stood around for about 5mins in two little white rooms with about 25 other
people all with their purple stickers ( oh yeah, do not fold it or tear it, they
will not let you in if it is damaged in anyway, has 2 be on your shirt as well ).
Next thing Ed is standing next to me. WOOOOOOOOHHHHHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! I don't think
I'll ever be able to explain the moment. I'm not even going to try. Interesting thing,
Ed is much taller than I thought. He's got this bigger than life presence.Shook hands
got stuff autographed. Next was Chad Gracy. What a cool guy, he looks exactly the
same as on all the photo's etc. kinda introverted. Had a leka chat to him, asked
if his fav song to jam is "gas hed goed west", he said that he loves to
do it, but now he likes "????" the most. &%@#$, right there someone
shouted something and I could hear what he said.
Right, next was Patrick, what a cool ouk, funny shoes though, didn't talk 2 much
to him, very relaxed around him though. Last we met Chad Taylor, he really was cool,
making conversation the whole time ( not waiting for you to ask questions ) making
jokes etc etc. Got to ask both Chad Taylor and Chad Gracy about a possible DVD release.
Chad Taylor gave the bst answer, he said that they were supposed to realease a DVD
for Xmas, but things did not work out like that. This is excellent news!!! At least
now we know that they are working on something!! Anyway, next thing we were escorted
out and that was it... I've left out a lot of the finer details, but thought I should
keep it short.
Final impression - it was rocking, amazing totally mind-blowing, but ... a bit 2
predicatable and not as energetic as the last tour's concerts. Maybe if I had less
2 drink this would have been different, but oh well... It was worth every cent spent,
the band members were like really cool 2 meet and the venue was great!!
So ... anyway, now I'm gatvol of typing ... CT guys and DBN guys enjoy it, it is
worth it. |
