What a show... The guys were amazing,
the new material sounded awesome. The place was packed. Ed seemed really into the
show, and he sounded wonderful. I am really looking forward to the new album, Ed
joked about some of the fans knowing the New songs better then he did because of
the internet.
I was wondering if anyone standing by me was from this website at the show. I was
in the back by the "sound equipment" there was a guy in front of me that
looked familiar (I thought I might of seen his picture on the website) anyway him
and his girlfriend were taking a ton of pictures....**If you happen to be reading
this and it was you....PLEASE share the photo's... thanks!
I was surprised to see how many people they were allowed to squeeze in there....After
they announced to look for the nearest exit I said to my husband "for what?
we would never make it there." It was way over crowded.
Ed mentioned the new cd will be out March 21st. I am so excited for this new cd.....I
thought all the songs but one were amazing. I didn't really care for SHOW......but
everything else sounded awesome. |

I was in the back to the right of the
soundboard with my LIVE t-shirt on. It was a very good show... same setlist as Minnesota
minus Iris. The venue was really over-crowded in my opinion, but the crowd was amazing.
Band was really on tonight, and put on an awesome show. I wouldn't want to go back
to Starland again in this unless LIVE plays there again. The place was a bit too
cramped for me.
As for the setlist.....I did know all the songs and I could use a change. But it
will change once the album comes out in March. We all know that LIVE is lazy with
soundchecks....after all these years we can't be surprised. I went with two people
who never saw LIVE before and they thought they were amazing. The one girl really
loved The River and can't wait for the new album in March. So mission accomplished
for the band. |

Ok, ok, of course an awesome show....
but I DO have to say, which isn't much of a surprise, that the setlist is really
boring me! Ahhh, I feel bad saying something negative about the band, but it was
the same set (as far as I remember) from the HOB show in Aug.... I was predicting
all the songs before they were even played. My sis was like, "You remember the
WHOLE set?!" Yeah, I guess I did! I soooo need to hear some of the more "obscure"
songs like "Century", "Graze", "Insomnia...", "Heropsychodreamer",
"Stage", ""Where Fishes Go" (I miss that one! ), "Good
Pain"... I could go on & on! I dont even know why they bother putting an
actual setlist down, they should have the thing memorized by now! Now, dont get me
wrong, it was a great show, I enjoyed it immensely & all, but they just need
to play different tunes! |

The show was incredible last night.
The energy in the Starland Ballroom was electric as soon as Live went on stage. I
was pleasantly surprised when they included songs from their not-yet-released album
"Songs From Black Mountain". The setlist was awesome. There is just something
about this band that makes you feel so peaceful and connected to everyone around
you, and once again, they did it last night.
I didn't see any problems with Starland Ballroom, except for the fact that there
were "technical difficulties" when Live first came on stage... oh and the
fact that smoking is allowed indoors in NJ. |

This was approximately the 13 time
I saw Live, and like always they were full of energy and they sounded great. You
got the feeling early on in the show that the guys were really into the show tonight.
Ed's brother Adam joined them onstage for back-up vocals and guitars, which I thought
was a good addition. As for the set list, I was disappointed. I was hoping they would
mix it up a lot more, but they decided to go with the usual set list that Live fans
have come to expect over the past couple of years. Basically I knew every song they
would play before and during the concert. The only thing I was not certain about
was the order. In my opinion this takes away from the show. You almost never get
suprised at a Live show as far as the song selection is concerned. How about Iris
instead of All Over You, or Sparkle instead of Dolphins Cry? One of my friends was
praying they would play Rattlesnake, but I assured him there was no chance, and of
course I was right. Even Where Fishes Go, one of my all time favorites, has seemed
to have dissappeared from the setlists. A suprise such as Stage, Gas Head Goes West,
Pillar of Davidson, Like I Do or Rattlesnake would have been more than welcomed from
the auidance. Regardless of the annoying predictability of the setlist, the band
sounded great. The place was rocking, and everyone was into it from the first moment.
The venue was too crowded, but that is a separate issue. As for the new songs, like
a lot of other Live fans, I am not crazy at all about The River, but the other new
songs sounded very good. The song Show stood out the most in my opinion. That song
really rocked live in concert. I hope there is a few more like it on the new album.
Ed commented at one point that one of the reasons they wrote the new album is cause
there is nothing good on the radio these days, which I agreed with. Overall they
could not of sounded better or performed with more energy. I just hope in the future
they can mix up their setlists a lot more, and possibly play longer. |

As always they sounded great. Full
of energy. And the new songs were good. But the setlist is the same old same old.
I have seen this same set minus the new songs for almost 4 years. Time to mix it
up.
I was with 2 people who never saw Live play before an they loved the concert. But
again me and my buddy who have seen Live numerous times over the years were disappointed
with the repeat concert. |

I just want to say that Live is amazing
in concert. The energy in the building was through the roof. I was very happy that
the place was over-crowded ... it means that people still like real bands and haven't
all converted to Z100 drones. A sell-out for Live eleven years after their biggest
album is a real testament to their staying power here in the states. The technical
difficulties didn't affect the show and the new songs sounded great (I personally
think "The River" is wonderful and a good choice as a first single). "Show"
was spectacular live and the two encores were breathtaking. Live is definitely the
greatest band on this or any other planet. |

I purposely waited to read some initial
reviews first in order to guage the opinion of others who saw the show. I am going
to review this from a different perspective. First of all, I have been following
the band since their infancy, and being over 42 years of age and with children, my
wife and I do not have time to drive extensive distances to see them every time they
are in the 'area'. I remember 10-12 years ago when they would regularly play the
Chameleon Club in Lancaster and have seen them play in the most remote venues in
Pennsylvania - Mansfield, Lewisburg, Bloomsburg, the Crow Bar in State College, etc.,
but this is when time was not critical. My point is that I have not had a chance
to see them in several years, so it is irrelevant if their set is the same as it
was 60 days ago in Atlantic City!
We, as Live fans, must be thankful for many things: After 15 years they are still
together, the same members are in the band, they still put out records that matter,
no drug problems, no inner-band squabbles, no record company contract issues, no
soap opera/Yoko Ono woman infiltration issues. They have consistently put out different,
well produced cd's and the songwriting is just as strong as it always has been. They
still play shows that matter they start their shows on time, they dont fill their
shows with cover songs like some artists do.
So they had a major label cd in 1994 that produced several songs that they will play
at every show. Good grief, Johnny Cash was playing Ring of Fire even after 40 years
of touring! Yes still plays Fragile and that song came out in 1972! And the Stones
still play Brown Sugar!
And I remember in the late 1990's and early 2000's when Live would not play White
Discussion, and now they are playing it. Every one was complaining when they were
not playing White Discussion, now they are. I am greatfull they play it! So they
do add songs and change them. There will always be songs we will all want them to
play, but they are going to stick to their set for the most part. U2 is on tour right
now, playing multiple nights in the same city, with the same set list. I do not view
the playing of the same songs in the same tour or general time frame of the history
of the band as a negative.
We really have to be grateful this band is still vibrant after all these years, and
that leads me to the show. The previous reviews all agree it was a solid show and
was great! I completely agree. They came on stage at 10:23 pm Friday night and they
left for the final time at 12:12 am on Saturday morning! It was pure sonic heaven.
Ed has got charisma on that stage, he commanded the presence of the band and was
inspiring. Seeing them at this relatively small venue was a treat - considering next
year they will probably tour in the U.S. in those dreadful 25,000 seat ampitheaters
all summer. Ed's voice is still as powerful as ever even after all these years. His
voice octave range is still the same as it was in 1993. He didn't throw destroy/abuse
his voice/vocal chords (can anyone say Stevie Nicks or Steve Perry?) They play longer
now then they did 10 years ago! I remember in mid 1990's it was a great night if
they played 75 minutes during the infamous three band college tours they did.
After not seeing them in the past couple years due to time constraints with the family,
it was great to hear the classic songs as well as the new ones.
It was really nice of Ed to dedicate the playing of Operation Spirit to their original
band manager from the York County days who was in attendance. That shows respect
and class.
In summary, I hope the great Live fans can take a 'step back' and a 'deep breath'
and really take a pause and look band from the beginning of the band up to now and
be thankful for the fact that this great band is still together, and still matters,
after all these years. Bands break up and mutate and go through so many personal
and band problems and it says so much about Live that they have not gone through
this. Even REM lost a member several years ago (the drummer quit). I could go on
and on, I think I have made some valid points that need to be considered when looking
at Live. And sometimes I think fans can get spoiled by just how good and consistent
the band really is. Be thankfull for what they have given us, it really is a gift
of talented musicians, songwriting, sacrafice. I for one, am grateful and look forwad
to the next year with the upcoming new tour. I hope if anyone from band management
or the band reads this they take away one thing - THANKS for great music, cd's, songs
and shows. When I am 75 years old and in my rocking chair I will carry with me in
my mind the great Live shows, and all the songs they played, and whether they were
the same songs or not, it will not matter then - the experience of the shows and
cd's will forever be etched in my truly thankful mind. |

My first LiVE show and I was NOT disappointed.
I was near the end of the stage left side bar (Taylor's side) on the elevated part.
Even though I've seen the set list for their last few shows and I suspected it would
be the same for this show, somehow I was just hoping for some deeper cuts. But it's
so cool that they can play a "greatest hits" show and still squeeze out
two hours! Despite technical difficulties, it was a great show. |

The show really was great! We were
also right in front of Pat against the barrier, so I'm sure we were next to a few
of you guys. I had always made it a point to stand near CT, but we could get against
the barrier only by Pat. I have to say that I'll always be going back to stand near
Pat because it was absolutely amazing. CT has so much more energy, but Pat "feels"
the music so much more. He just seemed totally detached from everything except the
music and it really was a beautiful thing to watch.
As for the show, the sound was pretty good even though the band really was pissed
about how it sounded. Ed was really pissed about a problem with Gracey's drums initially,
and CT was pissed the entire time about the loudness of his guitar compared to the
rest. Personally, I thought it sounded more than fine but did notice what they were
complaining about. The highlights of the show for me were All Over You, Shit Towne,
White, Discussion and Love Shines. I loved all the new songs, but it seems like they
need to get a little bit more used to playing them before they really have the energy
they deserve; Show has consistently disappointed me the three times I've seen them
play it even though it's my favorite on disc. That's about it....I really can't wait
to see them again but I don't know if that'll be anytime soon. Glad everyone else
had a good time also! |

First LIVE concert and my buddy and
I were really looking forward to it. Big fan of Throwing Copper and to some degree
The Distance but had lost touch with anything they have done since. The band seemed
to have a split personality...the rocking old stuff and the folksy James Taylor esque
new stuff. I have to say we were both extremely disappointed. The band rocked when
it could, and it had lots of energy, but they need to decide to be either a rock
band or a pop/ballad band because both don't work. Found the set list very uneven,
got bored (Sophia was a terrible song)...left during the first encore. The only concert
I have seen worse than this was Bon Jovi....nuff said. |

I saw the show on Friday night with
my daughter. Like Pete in a previous review, I have been following the band since
the early days and have seen them about a dozen times. I am 51 and my daughter is
26, and along with my 24 year old son we still love Live as much as ever. The show
sounded great to me - lots of energy and passion, which is what drew me to Live in
the first place back in 91. The venue was way too crowded and very smoky, but that
didn't matter once the guys hit the stage. I loved the set list - I can never hear
the old songs enough, and thought the new ones were really good. I hadn't heard White
Discussion in a long time, so that was a treat. One of my favorite shows of all times
was at the Beacon in NYC, a week after Secret Samadhi was released - now that was
an awesome set list!
I will always hold a special place in my heart for Live. I feel that I have watched
them grow up, and I love the fact that they are still tight, still create great music,
and have made a great career out of being songwriters and musicians, yet can still
remain fairly anonymous, so it feels like they are my secret band - it's the best
of all worlds in my opinion. They have such a dedicated core group of fans, but when
I mention to my friends and co-workers that I am seeing Live, many people have never
heard of them!
One note that has nothing to do with the show - I won the tickets and meet and greet
passes from Friends of Live, but unfortunately the band did not stick around for
the meet and greet. When I was waiting at the Will Call window to pick up the passes,
I noticed that there were very few people on the guest list - that sort of tipped
me off that it probably wasn't worth their while to stay and talk to so few fans.
I was disappointed for my daughter especially - my son and I had the privilege of
meeting the guys during the summer when they toured with the Counting Crows, and
this time it was her turn. We can't complain, though, since we got to see a great
show. |

It was my first trip to the Starland,
and I'll be back, for those who remember the old Birch Hill, this place is clearly
an upgrade, although completely overcrowded as others have said.
It was Live experience #3 for me. My crew of 5 had the perfect spot: Pat's side,
one step from the barrier and one step from the bar. I was calling out the songs
before they played them and, considering this was more of a one off show, the setlist
was to be expected. It was sort of random that they'd play two shows in early November
when they'd been off the road for a month and don't have a new album out until the
spring...were they in NYC shooting a video or meeting with Epic execs? This is where
my mind wanders.
The show was solid, although Ed & Chad T were unhappy with the sound as others
have said. The new songs were a bit tighter than in AC in August. Someone above said
the old songs rocked and the new songs were "James Taylor-esque." Music
is subjective, but where were you during Show? That song rocks. I really like Mystery
in particular out of the new stuff.
It's great that so many "older" fans are returning to the band, and for
the most part, embracing the newer stuff. I have a friend who just rediscovered Live
and the "new stuff" to her is anything from TDTH and forward... |

That show was awesome! It was my first
time ever seeing LIVE and it was truly a special night. My boyfriend got me the tickets
as a surprise for a special occasion. November 19th was 10 years to the date that
I received a life-saving heart transplant. I found myself listening to LIVE a lot
then to help me get through the rough times I was dealing with. Their music really
inspired me and kind of made me feel like everything was going to turn out OK, and
it did. So that just made it even more amazing to finally see my idols for 10 years
on stage. The set list was amazing, the encores were amazing the guys were amazing.
I will totally be going to see them again when they come back to the states. |
