I must say that out of the 8 times
I've seen Live, this easily tops em all. Not only was the crowd awesome and so into
it, but the sound was perfect. I was worried all day yesterday because I was praying
that they would play the setlist that they did the night before in York and not the
same one they played for months with all the songs from Birds of Pray. I was thinking
that they might have just played the other setlist because they were in York but
then, I was also thinking that maybe they'll keep that setlist because of the Greatest
Hits album that's coming out.
The night started off with this amazing band called Omnisoul. They were so damn
good. A minute into their first song, me and my friend knew that we were in for
a very good performance. You guys can check them out at omnisoul.com
The second band was called Days Away. And ironically, a minute through their first
song, my friend and I felt as if seeing Live might be days away. They were that
bad. Their guitarists didn't move, their keyboardist wasn't moving an inch and the
singer was so inaudible, that I think I would have rather gone and watched grass
grow.
After they finally got off, I was talking to this girl next to me about whether or
not she has seen Live before. She said "oh yeah, 35 times". I don't know
if that was an exageration or not, but she was cool. She was at the York show the
night before so I got to explain to her my setlist dilemma. I think she said that
she was hoping they kept that setlist too. And for the record, I told her that
I hope the board in York don't pain a mural on the wall across from the hotel, because
I love Shit Town too much to never hear it again.
After about 40 minutes of waiting, the guys took their places on stage, and they
did Pain Lies on the Riverside. The second I heard the opening drums, I knew that
they would have the same setlist. It was awesome to hear this song in concert once
again! After that, they went right into All Over You which is always a crowd favorite.
It seemed that the 4,000 in attendance knew every word to the song and sang right
along with Ed. Then they mentioned the Greatest Hits coming out in November and
how it will have 22 videos which got quite a big cheer from the crowd. Then they
went into They Stood Up For Life which might very well be my favorite Live song.
CT was wearing this maroon colored tux-like suit and wore these big police officer/Elton
John style glasses that was sorta funny. That didn't stop him, however, from rocking
out during TSUFL. They did Selling the Drama next which also got a huge crowd reaction.
The whole crowd sang right along with that one as well. The best part of the crowd
was that everyone seemed to know Live very well. You could tell that most of the
people there have heard all of the songs they were playing and that was best shown
in their next song, Beauty of Grey. I thought I was getting spoiled hearing 2 songs
from Mental Jewelry. It's always nice to hear that. Next, Eddie went and got his
Star Guitar and I knew immediately that 4,000 of us were about to sing about how
shitty York, PA really is. And that's exactly what we did! After Shit Town, they
did Life Marches On. That's probably my favorite from BoP so it was good to hear
that. Then they did Pillar of Davidson. I haven't heard this Live since the first
time I saw them in 1997. This song is so damn awesome and towards the end of the
song, I actually found myself not singing a word, but just standing there with my
eyes closed like in a trance. Damn that song in awesome. Once that was done, I
FINALLY got to hear Turn My Head plugged!! Every single time I've seen them, they've
done it acoustically. That song is so, for lack of a manly word, pretty. Then they
did Run Away and the cool thing about that was towards the end, when Ed decided to
tease us with a little but of Aerosmith's Dream On. I already mentioned that I felt
spoiled to hear 2 songs from Mental Jewelry, but after Turn My Head, the did Operation
Spirit. That's another song I haven't heard since 97. Before that song, he also
decided to lose his shirt to a big cheer from all the ladies. Then they did my favorite
Live live song, Lakini's Juice. This song just gets every friggin person on their
feet and jumping or stomping or doing something to the beat. CT and Ed were going
nuts on this song and you could tell that they were having a blast. Once that was
done, they did I Alone with the Like A Stone Medley. It was another song that got
a big reaction from the crowd and a mass sing-a-long. It was funny because all night
the security was running around making girls get off of their boyfriends shoulders
and before I Alone, he saw this girl reluctantly get off of her boyfriend's shoulders
because of the security. Well, at that point he pointed to her and said "it's
ok baby. If that's your boyfriend, get up on his shoulders. I'll stick up for you.
But only if that's your boyfriend!" So, she got back up there and they started
to do I Alone. About 30 seconds into the song, the security was telling that same
girl to get down right in front of Ed. He began to stare down the security guard
and was making faces behind his back and putting his fists out. It was great. Then
they did Heaven. This was the first time I've heard this song in concert and it
was so awesome.
After Heaven, they went away and let us lose our voices some more for 5 minutes.
After that, Ed came out with his acoustice and did Overcome. I like that song,
but I kinda wish they would have done something else instead of that. I would have
loved to hear Deep Enough or even Freaks (though they probably forget how to play
that...lol). After that, they did Dance With You. The girl I was talking to before
the show, I had mentioned to her that I saw they played DWY in York and I was praying
that I finally got to hear that song Live. I have never heard it in concert and
that song was beautiful. After that was done, we all sang along to The Dolphins
Cry and then they did Lightning Crashes.
They left the stage but this crowd was just amazing. Everyone there could tell and
you could tell that the band thought that too. They were having a blast and it was
obvious. So, they came back up on the stage and I was hoping for either I Walk The
Line or White, Discussion. Luckily, they did White, Discussion as a second encore
and my god, it was friggin energetic and amazing! Towards the end of the song, Ed
said "Did you guys have fun? Because I know I did." They ended with that
to a huge cheer as Ed, Chad, Chad, Pat, and Adam all linked arms and thanked everyone.
I stood around after while hoping to catch a stick, pick, a setlist or something.
After a few, I did catch Pat's towel. The girl next to me was pretty depressed
that she didn't catch anything. So, thinking that God would pay me back with a setlist,
I parted with the towel and gave it to the girl next to me. Don't you know, 10 seconds
later, this same damn girl catches a setlist. Oh well, on the way out, I asked the
sound guy and he scrounged one up for me since I had given away the towel.
This show was absoultely amazing and was indeed the best performance I've seen from
them. This was their second time at Kahunaville and I'm sure that they will be back
again. They had a blast and in turn, we all had a blast! |

My initial instincts that this show
was going to be a good one. It was a great night in Wilmington, the Eagles had won
and there were tons of Eagles shirts in the crowd.
They opened with "Pain Lies By the Riverside", appropriate for the Big
Kahuna which is on the Riverfront. And early on there were some technical issues
(backing vocals were way too loud). Ed later had some mic problems as well. Despite
stumbling through the song, they rocked. My buddy and I couldn't figure out why
Brad Pitt was playing guitar, and it took us at least 3 songs to believe that it
was Chad Taylor. (The stomping sure helped.) This new look for Chad is much better
than the Mohawk look.
The girls were quite happy with Ed's Rockstar antics quite a few screams... and overall
the band was pretty solid. There are certain songs in life that you need to see
live... The Who "Baba O'Reilly"... Stones "Satisfaction"... Rush
"Tom Sawyer"... Dada "Dim"... Jimmy Eat World "Bleed American"...
Pearl Jam "Rear View Window" and others... but you MUST see "White
Discussion". It does help to wait for it, not like the guy behind me who called
for it 2nd song in. |

First off. Let me say I'm dead on my
feet. Or ass as the case may be since I'm sitting in work. I didn't get home till
2:30 am. (Damn slow ass people at wawa)
The setlist was amazing...it's pratically my dream setlist! Two of my all time favorite
songs are the first two!!!
Pain Lies on the Riverside, gods so amazing, been so long so since this was played
in concert regulary. So much passion and it was like the throwing copper tour all
over again... Put your soul in the water and join me for a swim tonight! I went nutz
during this song and just started jumping around and rocking out like a madwoman.
Followed by TSUFL! Probably one of the most inspiring and uplifting songs ever written!
I'll never get tired of it.
Then all over you..a great performance of this. Always a concert favorite.
Operation spirit in concert was amazing..i think it's been 10 years since I heard
that played. They changed the tempo it was a bit faster then the cd version. I was
soooo happy while this playing!
I cried during runaway as is becoming usual for me, that song just moves me to no
end. No guitar solo tho.
Lakini's was just rocking, hard core. I bow before chad taylor that man is a rock
god (I did literally get to bow before him too hehe)
Turn my head plugged in was a nice change of pace, adam's vocal's continue to add
a nice bit of new flavor to the band...such gorgeous harmonies him and his brother
do.
POD! Amazing! Taylor remebered all the words! I cheered him for this..
White discussion!!! The buggers tricked us again like they did in AC! Gracey threw
sticks they bowed etc etc. Five minutes later they were back on stage!! AWESOME!!!
Like Lakini's and TSUFL I can't get enough of this song...
The crowd last night was good...lots of energy! It's always great to be at a concert
surrounded by people you know, I knew just about everyone in that front row, if not
by name, by face.
The bands energy was also REAL high, Ed was smiling the whole time, Taylor just feckin
rocked out, we COULD feel him stomp was he over on our side of the stage. I'm really
suprised he hasn't broken an ankle or foot or something with the force he puts behind
those stomps. Heck I even saw Gracey crack a few smiles.
This goes in the books as one of my top concerts. It's on the top 10.
OH the opening bands..Omnisoul was pretty good, gotta get their cd. The second opening
band was horrible!!! They literally gave me a headache...was so happy to see them
go.
I forgot something, Ed's dancing last night. Was back to the orginal Ed dance. The
Throwing Copper Tour Ed dance and Secret Samadhi ed dancing, where he actually moves
and shakes his ass.
All I need is Like a soldier in the set-list again and Life is good. |

OMG! Did last night really happen!??
I had to look at my signed shirt to be sure. I can't wait to see the pics!
I have to say, I've only been to 6 shows so far, but this one was FAR better than
any of the other ones, on all levels.
The setlist was perfect, with two encores. Almost every song I would want to hear.
Have they ever played "Nobody Knows" here in US? I know it's on the DVD
with BOP, but I love that song so much, I'd love to see it performed sometime.
The crowd was amazing, so much energy. I could see everyone in front, dancing and
singing. I was on the right side of the stage closest to Adam and Chad..... amazing.
What can I say? They all put so much into this show and I felt so privileged and
honored to meet them afterwards to thank them personally. I never thought it would
happen. |
