It was my first show in two years...
The last few times I saw them, I got to hang out backstage so when I found out they
were playing MY state, I skipped the Phish shows. I got there late, but Susan, Amanda,
Scott and Jacqui held my spot. The opening band was good, and a nice bunch of guys
too. Ok, now the review...
I was dying to see Like I Do for an opener... Its my favorite on BOP. I am a longtime
fan, on a side note, I am Fan of the Month on Homespun, check it out! It finally
paid off ;) Anyhow, I was disenchanted by V which I was very vocal about later in
the evening, whoops! They did the Simple Creed rap and I almost freaked! Then,
Like I Do. I was in front of Ed's mike.. and he was wearing his shades. About
1/4 of the way through, I took of my mardi gras beads I got at the Dead shows out
at Red Rocks (yes, I am a Dead Head and Live is my favorite band, quite a conundrum!)
and swung them around in front of Ed. He took the bait. Third piece of jewlery
of mind I've gotten him to take. He did nasty things with them, put them down his
pants, shake it all around....whoo! Then, gave them back, what a gentlemen. They
are my beads of Joy! Anyway, the music was great, Ed needed help singing alot, seemed
he couldn't hit the high notes. I could see the set list and saw Lightning Crashes
was last, which I was not having. I think they should close with White, Discussion,
everytime. I have told this to BOTH Chad's now. So, Ed leans down after LC and
I mouthed 'one more, white discusstion, please!!' So, he turned around and told them
and they ripped into it!!! What a mind blower for me. So you guys have me to thank
for that last one ; ) I hung out after and talked to Jimmy so I got to hang backstage
without a pass, thankfully. I had won backstage passes on Xmas but they couldn't
fit me in. So, I just started mingling and Ed came out...Now, when I met him back
two years ago..I told him that his voice was like Nectar in my head and makes my
body do crazy things... He loved it. Anyway, the next night I met him again and
he called ME Nectar. I was so nervous to see if HE remembered the nickname that made
me weak in the knees, and he did after I reminded him. I made him give me three
autographs that night, I was annoying. Then I started to talk to Pat and we headed
out back to chow and started the back, back stage party. and I'll end it there so
as not to implicate myself or anyone else..; ) What a night! Can't wait for the
next one, Thank you LIVE! |

Awesome show! I think the set list
was exactly the same as the Maryland show. The "I Alone" medley was amazing.
At first, Ed wasn't doing as many of the high notes because his voice was a tad strained,
but he got it back. What a set of lungs! Patrick launched his bass into the crowd
and Chad T was doing his high jumps. The crowd was so into it.

Plain and simply, the show absolutely
rocked. They played the same setlist as in Rockville, which I expected, only this
time they got it right and closed with White, Discussion. A few events of note: Ed
did mention the release of the greatest hits album, along with the DVD, and the crowd
went nuts. I thought Janice was going to drop to the floor when Ed mentioned that
there would be a porn movie starring Chad Taylor on the disc. :p There was also another
part of the show when, in between songs near the beginning, Ed said, "You know
what it's like to go to work, and all you see around you are joyous, smiling faces?
I LOVE my job." Very cool.
However, not everything can be perfect. The crowd was less than spectacular. Although
they were tamer than the crowd in Rockville, My experience was nearly ruined before
the show even began by this asshole standing in front of me, who kept backing into
my shoulder, and threatened to basically rape me (yes, like, a prison rape) if I
didn't stop "elbowing" him. Um... sure buddy. His fat ugly wife standing
there probably couldn't satisfy him enough, I suppose. Also, after that, we were
talking to this other chick in the crowd who asked us if they were going to play
anything from "Secret Samurai". I (snobbishly) corrected her and asked
her to repeat after me, "Sa-ma-dhi". She stopped talking to me after that.
hahahahaha
Pat's bass was a bit screwed up, at one point, he just got fed up, unplugged the
guitar, and tossed it into the crowd. It was, however, retrieved by one of the crew.
How nice of a souvenir would THAT have been?! Ed's voice was also a bit messed up.
Lisa and I noticed that he couldn't hit the high notes, he was constantly thanking
the crowd for helping him sing. Well, I guess the crowd around me sucked, but everyone
else was way cool. The place was absolutely packed to the walls. The area could have
been nicer, but still. The boys showed me a damn good time last night. |

The show was really good. The crowd
was into it all the way. My only disappointment was no Bob Dylan cover, but everything
else rocked.
It was also cool getting to meet all the FOLers and the members of the band. Everyone
I met was really nice and very inviting. So thank you guys for that. I can be shy
in weird situations, but I felt totally at ease. The only exception was when I met
some guy named Ed, I think his last named starts with a K, but not entirely sure.
He seemed to be on another planet..... AND NO I DON'T WANT TO GO BACKSTAGE AND DRINK
WITH YOU (even though I think you asked Jen not me)
All in all it was a really cool night. |

I went to the Casino ballroom concert
last night, 5th time seeing live. The opening band was Blue Epic.....I didn't really
care for them. The guitars were very harsh and the vocalist was much too close to
the mic making his lyrics inaudible. The only person with any talent seemed to be
the bassist. I was glad when they got off after about 7 or 8 songs.
Live came on around 9:15 and put on an excellent show, first time I have ever seen
them in a general audiance setting and it was great! Ed seemed to be having a blast,
he was smiling the whole time and of course flirting with all the ladies as usual,
eventually taking his shirt off completely driving all the girls insane. How can
a guy compete with that? Pat actually smiled a lot, he's always been pretty laid
back. Chad T didn't seem to be in the best of moods, especially during the encore
there seemed to be a monitor problem with one of the instruments and he went to the
back of the stage all upset. Ed was also having a problem with not being able to
hear anything through his monitor at the beginning of the set. Ed was constantly
interacting with all the people right up at the front of the stage, he even took
a necklace from someone and wore it through the whole set before giving it back at
the end. He said at one point how he loved his job so much and was glad that his
fans enjoyed them. The crowd was excellent, everyone was singing along to every song
and jumping up and down.
Excellent show, glad I went to see them! I wish they would have played Deep Enough
and maybe Voodoo Lady, that's always a good one. Ed didn't even mention Birds of
Pray as their current album, I was suprised, maybe they are trying to forget about
it and just move on.... |
