Another great testament to the band
described early in the night by Outspoken's lead singer as the "Most influential
band in rock and roll."
Outspoken kicked off the night with energy and a hard-driving metal sound. Frankie
Perez added another great set that definitely rocked the house. I was very impressed
with his showmanship and dedication to delivering true, nuts and bolts, rock and
roll.
When Live took the stage, their stage presence and professionalism stood out above
the rest. My first Live show was in 1995 and it has been a joy to watch the guys
mature and develop as musicians as well as entertainers. Like a fine wine, they just
keep getting better and better as the years go by.
Ed, the Chads and Adam were their same animated selves, revving up the audience.
I thought Pat looked a bit tired and more laid back than usual. (Maybe he just had
a rough night at the hotel.) Regarding the crowd, there didn't seem to be the usual
"Live fan
synergy" but the audience definitely enjoyed themselves. Because the event was
"invite only" / "must win tickets", there did not seem to be
many true Live fans there. I asked a few people in line where they got their tickets
and the most popular response was, "a friend of mine works for Budweiser and
I just got the tickets a few days ago." I wanted to ask them to name 4 Live
songs but I really didn't want to know their answer. As in most areas of life, it's
not what you know that counts, it's WHO you know. On a lighter note, there were 4
grey haired men with primo VIP seats in the balcony. (Probably Budweiser execs) They
reminded me of the 2 guys from the Muppets.
All in all, the new tracks held their own and left the crowd yearning for more. Thanks
guys for another great show!!! |

My ceremonious 10th LiVE show, at the
House of Blues in Chicago, was the best I ever saw! Maybe that was in part because
I haven't seen them in a while, but it really was great. I was about four rows of
people back, just a little to the Chad Taylor side of center stage (I don't know
how he manages to keep playing so well when he's jumping around so much!). They played
almost every song I would have requested, and the crowd where I was standing was
great! They were big Live fans, really excited and dancing around like crazy. LiVE
didn't come on until pretty late, so the downside of that was that people were pretty
tipsy by the time they came out, which mean that I got jumped on during Lakini and
elbowed at some point, and I had to save a girl from falling backwards more than
once, but that was ok.
Sorry I didn't make an official set list, but they played a really good mix of Birds
of Pray songs sprinkled among the old concert faves like Dolphin's Cry, Lakini, and
I Alone (you know, the songs that make the floor shake). They played Beauty of Gray
too. I had a great time and can't WAIT to see them again. |
