What the fuck! I mean WHAT THE FUCK!
This show will be forever remembered.
OK, we walk on stage expecting to play Like I Do but the intro tape takes a dump
and our road crew can't salvage it. Our monitor man's voice was in the PA system
yelling that the signal was not happening!
Nothing, no sound.
Ed calls All Over You. I have to switch guitars so this doesn't happen right away.
Midway through All Over You, Patrick and I fuck up, we just stop, again no noise.
This is clearly the worst start to a LIVE show in our history. To be honest with
you we were over half way into the set and I know, and the band knows, we were on
the verge of total meltdown. Abandon ship, get off.
No sing alongs, no jumps, no movement, no crowd, we are clearly lost. Oh fuck.
I'm pretty sure we are going to walk off stage and quit the band. It's all going
to end here in the middle of Michigan. I feel like crying but I can't hear my guitar
enough to think about it.
Then, out of nowhere, Ed comes alive. I mean fucking OFF the hook. Just like when
we were boys, FUCKING MAD!
Dolphins Cry turns the corner. He's up in the crowd's face, pushing this show like
SHAQ dunking on Kobe. NO MERCY!
We end the set with Shit Towne - walk off stage and start to feel like we have the
crowd. Ed rushed back to the stage. We are expecting to hear Overcome or Turn My
Head. What are these chords; E minor, D and C. I call it first, All Along The Watchtower.
Dylan?
We haven't played that since high school at Gran Faloons. We look at each other and
laugh. Ed is fucking OFF HIS ROCKER, and I LOVE IT.
I grab a guitar and hit the stage for some impromptu guitar fun! Selling The Drama
followed by Lightning.
Then STOOD UP FOR LOVE for the second time. Yes, the second time. White Discussion.
Now what?
Dance with You. The crowd sings their asses off, we got you now!
Ed says to me "I'm gonna take you way back, back to the early days." I
say OK, and can't wait to hear what the hell he pulls out now.
Running To Stand Still, U2. D to G followed by the turn around A to G.
Adam and I improvise three part harmonies, guitar solos, and soaring vocals by 'player
of the game' Ed Kowalczyk.
This show began as one of the all time worst and ended as no other LIVE show ever
has. Watch out mother fuckers, this night could launch us to a whole new level. SHAQ
daddy don't play for the Lakers no more, he rolls with LIVE now.

I have seen probably 50 bands play
at the Muskegon Summer Celebration and the Live concert Tuesday night was by far
the best that has ever been down there.
They opened with All Over You, and if you read Chad's diary entry, that is not what
they wanted to open with. The early part of the set was pretty much running through
the motions. The crowd wasn't really into it much. By the time they played Dolphin's
Cry and Sh**town (one of my favorites, so glad they played it!) the crowd was starting
to heat up as was the band.
They came out after a break and were on fire. Ed took over, they played All Along
the Watchtower!!!! and played Stood Up For Love for the 2nd time! (Ed did not like
the way it was played the first time). Lightning Crashes, Dance WIth Me, and Selling
the Drama were played but the highlight was White Discussions. It was the best live
song I have ever seen played. It was huge, unbelievable, it totally gave me goosebumps.
They closed the show with a U2 cover.
I think that this show was a defining one in Live's career, as you can see if you
read the diary entry. I am so glad I was there to witness it. Hopefully audio of
the show surfaces so everyone can experience it.
Overall an amazing night, watching a band as great as Live reaching a new level and
blowing me away!! |

The show was amazing. I have seen quite
a few LIVE concerts, but this one was special. It didnt start as well as I had hoped.
Ed didnt seem to be into it, but slowly things turned around. My favorite band was
in my home town and starting to turn the crowd around. At first I heard some grumblings
around me. Who are these guys? "This is terrible", I heard just behind
me. Then it happened Ed cut loose. He was alive, on fire. I have never seen him quite
that way before. I too got goosebumps the energy was incredible! I coaxed the crowd
near me to stand. I yelled to people around me, "there is something special
going on here, join in." I was pumped. Singing and yelling for all I was worth.
All I can say is what an amazing show. No one has put a show on here in Muskegon
that even comes close. Thank you LIVE for an awesome show. I will never forget it! |

I have been to 2 amazing Summer Celebration
shows. Collective Soul and now +Live+. I just read the diary. I can't believe they
thought it was going to be their worst show. Then again, it's hard for a crowd to
get into it when the lead singer just stands there with a cocky-like attitude (please
don't slam me on this comment, it's just an observation. I love Ed like everyone
else). Plus there's a lot of older people who go to the show just because it's the
one week that Muskegon doesn't suck ass. I was 2nd row off by Patrick and the people
around me were saying that +Live+ is the best band ever. So there were definite fans
in the crowd. I was thrilled to hear Shittowne (Muskegon is my shittown) and Dance
With You. Number 8 and it was a memorable one. |
