I'm still coming down from the maximum
high that was seeing LIVE for the very first time on Friday night. Having to wait
about 8 years for a chance to see my no 1 band you can imagine I was quite excited
and well pumped up for what was to come. After a pint or three in the pub next door
to the venue we made our way in to the empire and i was shocked and delighted to
see how small and intimate the place was. It was jam packed down the front so we
hung around the bar at the side and supped some more liquid gold.
I just wanna send a big shout out to the many Dutch fans who travelled over for this
gig...MAXIMUM RESPECT TO YOU ALL !!! I was a bit gutted to miss Adam do his bit (we
arrived as he was finishing) cos we were told he wasnt playing. The other support
called NU were suprisingly good and went down well.
Then it was time for the main event and i was just blown away by the energy the band
put into the show and what a charismatic front man Ed was (ive seen many shows on
vcd and video but there was something about seeing him doing his stuff in the flesh
that film doesnt capture) and that goes for the whole band...how they gel on stage
and how much fun they seemed to be having together. Ed's voice couldn't reach some
of his higher notes a couple of times and he looked embarrassed but 2000 fans just
sung it for him. And he looked very thankful for the help...all the shows they
have done in the last few months might be taking its toll when it comes to singing
the high parts but for the rest of the time his vocals were spot on and his voice
was great. Like i do and Lighthouse passed and when All over you kicked in something
clicked in my brain and i went from standing near to the back to standing two people
from the front in front of Ed...I still dont know how i got there and i apologize
if I hurt anyone on the way but it had to be done.
So....there I was for the rest of the gig...being carried along on a crest of a wave
by the worlds best band....setlist was the same as recent weeks apart from The sanctity
of dreams which really rocked (and i thought it was my least favorite track on the
new cd). 1 hour 30 minutes passed like 15 minutes and it was all over way too soon...all
the best gigs are i suppose but Ed promised that they would be back in the spring
...make sure you keep your promise ED !!!! ....oh and thanks for the plectrum.
I was walking around my local supermarket Sunday morning proudly wearing my new LIVE
tour shirt and bumped into two people wearing bon jovi tour shirts....i asked them
how the gig at Hyde park had gone and they said really well and said how impressed
they were with LIVE and that they got a very good reception which made me very happy.
A lot of people didnt like the thought of LIVE playing support to Bon Jovi but with
92,000 people in hyde park i think it can only be a good thing and im sure they will
shift a good few albums because of it!!! |

First i'd like to tell about the politeness
of the englishmen... before the concert everybody was standing in a nice queue, and
when the queue had to move everybody nicely follows...no pressure or anything..only
a very calm queue....I've never seen anything like that before.
I went into the venue after i picked up my tickets and brought my bag to the luggage
departement. Then I walked (so I didn't run) to the stage and was second row... has
never happened before either..I'm used to running my ass of to be front row. Adam
started the show just as in Brussels, I was again amazed on how beautiful he can
sing. He spotted a few mad dutchies in the crowd and smiled at us, when he introduces
himself he said we already knew what he was saying. The support act, called NU, where
ok, not fantastic but not bad either. It was nice listening to them..
The band started with Like I Do but I missed that because some drunken schottish
idiots liked to annoy us. Again the english where very polite, security this time.
They asked the extreme drunk man twice very nicely if he would behave before they
got him out. After that his also very drunken friend became even more annoying and
knocked my friend down. I was a little shocked by this since he standing in front
of me (i was the blond one in a white t-shirt) and I saw him fading away..so he had
to be taken out of the crowd as well. The very drunken idiot was allowed to stay,
they pretended not to have seen he started everything. By the time I wasn't shaking
with anger anymore Lighthouse was over.
The band played amazingly, they had lot's of fun on stage. They where teasing eachother
and the roadies wich was very funny to watch. I was so close to the stage I could
see they where gonna play TSOD so I was very exited of course...they played it brilliantely..
Later that night Chad Gracey told me they practiced it that same day. I have a feeling
this will be the second single.
I'm bad at reviews so i'm not even gonna try to explain more about the show. I'm
very glad I went to England for this show... there where only 2000 people in a beautiful
venue.. Again one of my favorite shows ever... |

Well what can i say a fantastic night
the 3 and half year wait was worth it. The night started with Adam doing an acoustic
set very good it was to then a band called Nu came on not bad. Then Live, they started
with Like I Do it was superb my fav off the new album. By Voodoo Lady the place was
rocking big time and it got better and better you could see the band were loving
their return to England and when Lightning Crashes came on you could not hear Eds
voice due to the brillant support from the fans and to cap off a brilliant night
they finished off with White Discussion a night that i will remember for a long time.
I just hope they don't leave it so long next time. |

Having seen Live for the very first
time, it was absolutely mind-blowing. The intimate venue made it that much louder
and special.
Ed was enjoying himself just as much as the fans. As I looked over my shoulder, fans
on the balcony couldn't contain their excitement and just had to stand...
Their old favourites did it for me. 11 out of 18 hard-rock tunes came crashing down
as I jumped out of my skin ( apologies for those I pushed around ), but after 7 pints
my senses was heightened to every beat and riff.
Although Live is not very well-known in England, I pity those who haven't yet discovered
their blissful energy.
The only let-down I can think of was the merchandise:
There were no medium T's with tour dates printed on the back ( only Large ), but
I had to settle for a medium long-sleeved "Birds of Pray" baseball top.
Not too bad since I consider merchandise as a memento.
Cheers to Ed and the band. See you next time! |
