This was far and away the best of the
seven LIVE shows I have seen. From the opening of Like I Do through the end of the
show, both the crowd and the band were rockin. People sometimes like to put down
California crowds for being too laid back or too unemotional, but that would be extremely
unfair and inaccurate for this show. In fact, from my place near the soundboard,
there were times when the crowd almost drowned out Ed's voice with their singing,
and there was boisterous shouting and applause during even the lesser known songs.
Ed and the boys really seemed to pick up on this -- you know that Ed is into it,
for example, when he improvises lines here and there throughout certain songs, and
Chad T's stomps are a sure sign that he's really feeling the music and the crowd.
All five of the guys (including Adam) definitely left their guts on the stage tonight.
Highlights from a pretty standard setlist included They Stood Up For Love, which
was much better than at the Fontana show; Shit Towne, which the audience went absolutely
nuts for; Sweet Release, which has proven itself to be just amazing in concert, especially
the rousing, uplifting chorus; a stomping, insane, best-ever performance of Lakini's
Juice; Run to the Water, with another amazing chorus; I Alone, with Ed dead-on with
a BEAUTIFUL "Like A Stone" medley; and, of course, White, Discussion, which
almost didn't get played (the guys seemed to be debating whether to stop with Lightning
Crashes, probably because of sound problems). After a brief side-stage consultation,
they did decide to play it, and did so to a delirious perfection, with Ed going shirtless,
Gracey pounding away on the drums, and Taylor going bezerk, at one point crashing
into a stack of speakers and doing his best to topple them (he managed to sag them,
but a rope prevented them from falling).
All songs were done beautifully -- the only glitches were with the sound going to
the guys. Ed seemed to be annoyed a few times with the sound level in his ear, and
Pat seemed to be having a lot of trouble. When Ed tried his group hug near the end
of Lightning Crashes, Pat shouted "I can't hear!" and therefore couldn't
join them, instead having to linger near the back of the stage. Also, during Lightning
Crashes and White, Discussion, one of the speakers apparently wasn't working properly,
which was the cause of Chad T's attempt to bring them all down...
Not much more to be said except an awesome, beautiful, near-perfect show! |

This was my first LIVE concert, so
I can't compare it to others in terms of quality, but suffice to say that after 8
years of obsessive fandom this concert more than fulfilled my every expectation.
I was enthralled!
With the exception of this girl who parked herself in front of me and attempted to
talk on her phone during the Peacemaker's performance, a crazy flower-wielding lady,
and the boy next to us who turned to his mother and asked "what band is this
again?" (to our amusement, his mother proceded to flip him off and rock out!)
the crowd was amazing. I've never been to a music event with so much energy!
I was so involved and psychotic at the time that I didn't notice a single thing to
critisize. "Like I Do" was an amazing opener and got up pumped up from
the beginning. "I Alone," "Shit Towne", "Lakini's Juice,"
and of course "White, Discussion" were beyond amazing. My favorite though,
surprisingly, was "Life Marches On." I like the song, but it was no where
near my list of favorites until I saw Ed and Taylor "marching" around the
stage and bringing a whole different energy to it. I'm hooked! Pat looked a little
irked, maybe over the sounds because I saw him mouth something like "I can't
hear you!" to Ed. Other than that, the band's energy was phenomenal. I just
wish Gracey was closer, I had to strain just to catch a glimpse of him wailing on
the drums.
All I could hear on the walk back to the car was "LIVE is definity back!!"
I couldn't agree more. My fists were in the air and I don't think I stopped screaming
for the entire show (I can't talk above a whisper today, and I'm loving it!) This
was one of the best nights of my life, and I can't wait for my next show. |

I have to say that this was by far
the most memorable concert I've been to. The venue at the Anaheim HOB is very small
and intimate and when you combine that with a knowledgable, loyal fan-filled audience
in general admission, standing only quarters, you have the recipe for an electric
show. I don't get to see LIVE too often, living here in Anaheim Hills married with
3 small children, but I have to say watching Ed, Chad and Adam react to the crowd's
energy was worth the price of admission. Maybe they look this way all the time, but
it seemed to me that they truly appreciated the love that the crowd showed them tonight
here at "Disneyland" as Ed said.
Standard set list from what I have seen written lately with many from BOP, along
with All Over You, TSUFL (awesome rendition), Run to the Water, Beauty of Grey, Lakini's
Juice (absolutely the most rockin' version of this song I have ever seen, I thought
Taylor broke his leg with that stompin', this song literally whipped the crowd into
a frenzy), Dolphin's Cry and Shit Towne (really got the crowd going about 4-5 songs
into the set). First encore was 3 songs including Turn My Head (Ed-acoustic) and
Lightning Crashes, and Encore #2 was White Discussion (thank GOD they played this,
I was worried that they had taken it off the playlist with what I read here lately).
White Discussion is definitely the appropriate closer to a LIVE show.
A couple of things I'll take away from tonight include Adam, front and center next
to Chad up at the front of the stage which was really cool. Perhaps he's been up
there for awhile now but the last time I saw them live he was kind of in a back-up
position on the stage. Adam and Taylor really seem to have a lot of fun with each
other during the show.
I was impressed with crowd's knowledge, including singing along and knowing the words
to most of the BOP songs like Heaven and Run Away. It almost seemed Ed was pleasantly
surprised to see and hear the crowd contributing to these "new" tunes.
The thing I didn't like was Gracey's position low on the stage and behind a glass
barrier. It almost seemed to stifle the sound of the drums and you lost him in the
glare off the glass at times. He needs to be elevated and in clear view so we can
pay him the proper respect he deserves.
Sound was OK for 3/4 of the show (seemed to kick in 100% during Sweet Release) but
it wasn't great at the start of the show and Ed looked slightly annoyed. |

Great show. The crowd was really into
it from the get go. I could hear the crowd sing to Like I Do right off the bat. A
great set list too. It seemed just about the right length to me. Taylor kind of teased
us with White Discussion. While on stage he said lets do one more to the guys but
they were walking off stage. After a quick meeting at the side of the stage they
came out and did it. The boys were on tonight minus Ed's little goof up on Turn My
Head. Patrick seemed kind of out of it. He was moving around a lot the first 4 or
5 tunes, but after that he just stood in front of his amp and even moved one of the
plastic gaurds that covers Gracy's drum set, then didn't come out the front with
the band during LC when Ed tried to drag him out. I assume it was because of sound
issues, but if it wasn't I hope he's doing fine. But overall, a kick ass show minus
the psyco chick who tried to push her way up to the front to give the guys some flowers.
She eventually did but had to go to the side where Security was. The whole night
I was also looking for Denis Rodman since he usually shows up to these things, but
I didn't see him. Though I did finally see Jimmy poking his head around on stage
left taking pictures during White Discussion. I think I will stop rambling now and
just say thanks to the band for another KICK ASS show!!! |

This concert was the best. The energy
in the room last night was electric. I never seen a LIVE performance in a small venue
and it was definetly worth the 6 hrs of standing and the sucky warm up band... somebody
something and the pacemakers...? (Please make them go away). The sound guys were
franticly trying to get the sound right during their 30 minute performance. I was
directly behind the mixing boards in the center of the room talking to that 8 ft
giant HOB guy. It did take 4-5 songs into LIVE's performance before they got things
right and sat down to listen.
What a great view! Even at that distance Ed was singing to me.. and then when he
ripped off his tank... well ladies that was for me too.. (I'm still alseep and dreaming).
I'm glad everyone else was singing along cause that helped drowned me out, sorry
I just couldn't help it. It was a great show and the boys were on fire. |
