This was the first time I saw them
live, and I'm really blown away! This band rocks!! It really makes me sad, that an
absolutely awesome band like that has to tour as supporting act for Bon Jovi... (fortunately
not at this show!!)
Adam's five songs were nice, although the crowd was waiting hard for the main thing.
After a little break they finally showed up and started with "Like I Do",
which wasn't one of my favourites from BoP before the concert. Now it certainly is!
Same thing for "Lighthouse", another rocking song, those new songs have
pretty much energy, especially live. I think many people didn't know much from BoP,
those two songs didn't really get them going, of course that changed with "All
over You" and "The Dolphin's Cry", which were awesome.
When Ed says: "This is a song from our very first album..." you know there
comes a highlight: "The Beauty of Gray". This song is absolutely fabulous,
and I think it just gets better every time you hear it. Eds voice fits now so much
more to this song as on the original album version, and gives it some kind of energy
which is hard to find in songs from any other band.
After that they played Ed's personal favourite from BoP, "Run Away". A
nice song, and the crowd liked it too, I think, it calmed us down a little bit after
the more rocking songs from the beginning. "Voodoo Lady" was cool too,
although Ed didn't like the light straight in his face, which he had to tell twice
(the second time in the middle of the first verse), before that light-guy reacted.
Next song was "Life Marches On", which was one of my top favourites from
BoP before the show, and it rocked sooo much. I love this song, it's somehow straight
and simple, that's probably the reason why its so good.
Then two of those songs I love most: "Run To The Water" and "They
Stood Up For Love", just so so so amazing. Just when I thought it couldn't get
any better, right there comes "Lakini's Juice" and smashes the crowd. Ed's
and Chad's stomping, the cool riff and last but not least the "let me ride..."
part got the crowd going totally mad. Then a little intro, Ed somehow counting in,
and starting with "It's easier not t...." after that line you knew it was
"I Alone" but it was hard to understand anything Ed was singing! "Heaven",
introduced as the first single from BoP, was beautiful. I like this songs, it seems
to be very personal from Ed, and the crowd was really into it.
I dind't expect to hear "Dance With You", which was played first in the
encore. Well, I was surprised positively.
Hmmm, what can you say about "Selling The Drama"...., hm, doesn't really
matter, I think. After that, everybody was demanding "Lightning Crashes"
loudly. This song just knocks you down as last song of a Live show.
So, after all this show was just amazing, although a bit too short, not very much
over an hour! But I guess it's pretty straining with a temperature like that. Before
the encore Ed asked if we could make it any hotter, but one degree more would have
set the whole building on fire! But it didn't matter, I dindn't expect Live to be
that awesome, really, I was a big fan before this show, now I'm totally addicted! |

Shortly after eight Chad came out on
stage to introduce Adam who played an excellent little acoustic set of 5 of his songs.
Fantastic! And very well received! I'm definitely interested in the new album...
and my wife thinks he's cute (ugh!)
About 8:45 lights, sound, lift off!! Stage is understated and small. Just a big BOP
logo on the back of the stage and enough colour to support the mood. Chad seemed
a bit tired or even ill. I think I saw him sneeze a couple times (in between stomps
that is!)
The songs: (Note, as I have NOT YET (grrrr) received my pre-ordered CD from FOL I
was hearing the new songs for the first time!!) Set list as in Amsterdam, just two
additions and a switch in order which worked well for RTTW and TSUFL.
Like I do
Sonic explosion. Rockin song. The sound mix was hard on the treble for the new songs
(ouch!). I like the massive guitar sound though.
Lighthouse
I liked the imagery of the lyric. Again, this one rocks although the crowd still
was not sure what to do with the new songs. But not for the lack of energy coming
from Ed and the band!
All Over You
Now we're talkin!! The crowd now catches up with the band. The energy is enough to
knock out the whole left side stack (but the band does not notice and keeps the crowd
pumpin)
The Dolphin's Cry
Even on half sound the place goes mad.
The Beauty of Grey
My personal highlight!! A couple of measures in the left stack returns and the sound
is once again whole. This song has always been my all time favourite and hearing
it live again with Ed on the acoustic and full band accompaniment was simply a dream!
Run Away
Ed's favourite song off the new album. My wife turned to me and said, "wow,
good song!" Has an intimate vibe.
Voodoo Lady
Freaky-deaky drum and base intro then some serious hip action to be had with this
song. Ed introduces it as "one for the ladies!"
Life Marches On
Another new one that is VERY VERY good. Anthemic, rockin, just like the good old
days!
Run To The Water
Ahhhhh, this takes us into the part of the set that really sets the night on fire.
The next four songs keep the whole crowd elevated 3 feet off the ground!
They Stood up for Love
The hard and heavy version. Chad's guitar lick at the beginning just sends the crowd
into orbit!
Lakini's Juice
Orbit just reached a new level. The Stomp!
I Alone
I can hardly hear the lyrics over the crowd.
Heaven
Introduced as the first BOP single. Seems to have a very personal tone for Ed. At
moments his arms are crossed like he is holding a child. The lyrics move. This song
has some serious potential.
------------
Dance with you
Second (and only) addition to the set list since Amsterdam, I think. Very nice. Ed,
dawning a wet towel on his head comes back out and asks, "Can it get any hotter
in here?"
Selling the Drama
Yahoo!
Lightning Crashes
No comment necessary. We all know and love it!
What? Already over?? But it's only 22:10!!!! The crowd is screaming, the floor is
rumbling and then house lights and Nirvana comes over the loudspeakers.
For the next four hours driving home my wife can't stop her bewilderment that not
a single song was played off of V. In particular her all time favourite "Deep
Enough" (I know, I've got it good!!!) C'mon guys! It's as if the period between
2001 and 2003 did not even exist!!?? Even though V was not the commercial highlight
of your careers there are some damn good songs on there that can definitely rock
without Railo around on the keys!! If anybody from the band reads this, I challenge
you to bring in a song or two from V to the set list by the time I see you again
in Denmark! Those of us who don't live in Holland, Belgium or Aussie were not fortunate
enough to experience those songs live...
Conclusion: Nothing can detract from the fact that LIVE are simply the best live
band around! I don't know if it is still jetlag or they are saving themselves for
the BJ fans (what is that?!! ), but a bit more than 85 minutes next time please!!
Next stop Aarhus... |
