This was my 10th concert, but I haven't
seen Live since 2002. First, the tech crew took FOREVER to get set up. All the
lines were crossed and it was if nobody knew what they were doing. Live was scheduled
to perform at 7:25 and they didn't go on until 8:15. Second, because of the techies
screwing up the sound was awful. I have never heard Live sound so bad. Chad's guitar
was way off. The drums were too low. Ed's mic was doing something funky and was
too low. The guys were visibly pissed about it. At one point after Runaway Ed flipped
off someone on the side of the stage and cussed at them. Then he smiled and sang
his next song. Third, because of the rain and the time it took setting up they only
played 10 songs. This was a total disappointment. I wanted to hear W,D, STD, TMH,
POD or TBOG. All for all, it sucked. However, the band performed well. They tried
their hardest to get the audience into it and Ed looked like he was happy. Chad
tore his guitar up, partly because he was so pissed it wasn't sounding right, but
either way he looked awesome. I hope I get to see them again soon. |

Unfortunately my first Live concert
was "shortened by rain" (according to Ed). After waiting 40 minutes
(the concert was scheduled to begin at 7:25) for the Music Fest idiots to set up
the stage, Live was finally announced to come on. Right before they came on,
it started raining, which I thought was pretty cool.
Like I Do - great opening song. Ed came out midstage unlike most lead singers
who come out from the right or left. I thought that was interesting.
This was probably one of my favorites last night (maybe just because I had been waiting
so long just to hear any song).
Next was All Over You. This one was a lot better in concert than any other version
I'd ever heard. Never really loved this song, but it was great in concert.
They Stood Up For Love was awesome. I think I was the only person there who
knew what song it was right on the first note of the changed beginning (like the
one they used in the Brussels concert that I'm sure everyone's heard).
Run Away was ok. I personally don't like when bands introduce songs in the first
place, but when they throw in "This is our new single", that makes it worse.
Not their best live song, but luckily Shelby Lynne wasn't there to make it worse.
Sweet Release was a lot better than the CD version. I think a lot of people have
been saying this. This was the only song they played that I had never heard recorded
from a performance. I think I heard a few people in the crowd talking about how much
they liked this one.
Lakini's Juice was as I imagined it to be --- an awesome live song. Unfortunately,
not too many people knew the words. I figured more people would.
The Dolphin's Cry was one of the only songs they played that everyone sang along
with (not many Live fans here). I could tell Ed probably enjoyed doing this one the
most.
I Alone was my personal favorite. First off, it's one of their most popular songs
so everyone sang along. Second, I finally began moving up during this one so I got
pretty close to Ed. The Like a Stone medley was pretty good. I had never heard it
before. I don't think it really fits the song like some of their other medleys have,
but it was ok. Great performance of this song.
Heaven was ok. I'm not a big fan of this song, but it was cool seeing it live after
watching it performed on tv a few times.
Ed mentioned that he was told he had to wrap it up because of the rain, which I doubt
because they came on stage 50 minutes late. I was really disappointed when I heard
this, but I tried to take in the last song as much as possible. I thought it would
be White, Discussion, but they played Lightning Crashes. It wasn't a great song to
close with, but in the "storm" with everyone singing every word it was
awesome.
Overall, I was a little disappointed. I was almost 100% sure before I went that this
would be my favorite concert ever, but honestly it wasn't. I still can't believe
my first time seeing Live, the concert was shortened to only 50 minutes. I still
had a great time, and the Foo Fighters, who played right after Live, kicked ass.
I'm just glad I finally got to see my favorite band play live after listening to
them for so many years. |
