I made it down to North Park Mall to
see Ed at Solstice Sunglass Boutique which was a pretty laid back deal. There were
probably 20 to 30 people waiting for him to show up and Mix 102.9 had a little booth
set up in front of the store and they were playing Birds of Pray and passing out
copies BOP and other promotional items. When Ed came walking down the mall one of
the promotions people turned up Heaven pretty loud and people started clapping for
him as he entered Solstice. He did a little sunglass shopping and then sat down and
started signing autographs and taking pictures and what not. I got a copy of BOP
signed (thanks mix102.9 for the free copy of BOP) and a 8X10 black and white press
photo they had on hand. I asked Ed when the DVD is going to be released and he said
hopefully by the end of the year and that he has really been working hard on it lately.
I also asked him about the rumor I heard of LIVE playing on May 27th at the Gypsy
Tea Room (the venue where the T-Mobile web cast was filmed) and he confirmed it as
being true so add another tour date for May! On to the show....
The weather was a perfect 75 degrees, blue sky and sunshine...couldn't have asked
for better weather. Pegasus Square is a little concrete oasis in downtown Dallas
that proved to be a great setting for a Spring Acoustic Show. The opening band was
from Austin and not that great. They finally wrapped up their set and the stage hands
broke it down to a single mic stand and a stool with a glass of red wine setting
on top of it. Ed came out sporting some new shades from Solstice, denim jacket and
jeans and broke into I Alone. He sounded great! Really put those guys from Austin
to shame with his vocal abilities. Next was Runaway. He said that this was their
new single with some help from Shelby Lynne so just picture her standing next to
me while I do this one myself. I have to say it's the best version I have heard of
this one yet. Absolutely no falsetto and it really made the song a lot better. Then
it was Heaven and ended with LC. They all sounded great, I expected the short set
but I thought he would have played more than 4 songs??? No complaints though and
I can't wait for May 27th.
